Maybe SNSD's concept was "Versatility" itself

after a lot of talk about how SNSD managed to pull off multiple concepts while others of this generation have failed or not attempted, got me thinking. Isnt SNSDs single concept versatility? They are the Generation of girls, not just one type of girl, but any and all. I guess they were like any Girl you wanted them to be. From the INTW MV, you coukd see all the girls just doing their thing, they were marketed from the beginning as girls who could do anything.

ITNW was sorta like the introduction of a blank canvas, and with every comeback they painted something new onto it.

so basically they changed outfits but never really "changed concepts", but expanded on their foundation. if that makes sense

discuss? youe thoughts on this hoolabaloo?

SNSD like all SM groups had a "Culture Technology" formula. can you describe what you are talking about "this generation have failed or not attempted"?

SNSD is noteworthy because of how strong a BRAND it created... in other words a single type of image they were able to have with the public that made them iconic.  With a lot of iconic imagery like their famous Flying Wedge formations

as well as hook songs that anyone could sing along to and dances that kids and grandmothers could master and follow.

even with Japanese fans this is the thing they remember about SNSD their long legs and the SNSD style of dancing so different from JPOP.  SNSD was a iconic brand like BMW or Adidas that's why they were so popular.

I know some Filipino or Malay girl will not understand English and get bitter at this post and neg out of ignorance but VERSATILITY is not why SNSD got popular it's because they put an image of glamour and style in the heads of even casuals and they constantly reinforced it with different iterations of the same basic branding.

why do you think to this day that the SNSD style was so strong and so singular that it influenced an entire generation of girlgroups like Twice, WJSN and a dozen other groups?  how do you think basically every girl group starting out has to master ITNW and Gee and other SNSD songs?  are the trainees able to do this because it's so diverse and no one but SNSD can do it?  or because it's so iconic and anyone can do it and love it?

come on.

I'd say that versatility was a strong suit for them. They pulled off every comeback concept flawlessly, even if it was a complete 360 from their previous comeback. There was also nothing jarring about their concept transitions because even though every comeback was different than the last, they still had that Girls' Generation color in every title track. For example, Oh!, Lion Heart, RDR, & Genie were all very different from each other, but all still had that Girls' Generation signature. (And tbh, their concepts were some of the most unique concepts in KPOP). smile.png

I've always felt while SNSD changed up concepts regularly they always kept their girl next door charm.

For instance Genie was their sexy CB but they didn't do anything overly sexy, it was still pretty tame. RDR was then being bad girls but they weren't super in your face man hater type thing. IGAB was a them in street wear but they didn't go the usual route of trying to be edgy or hip hop or anything like that, quite the opposite they were very playful and girlish. Lion heart was very retro but still had a lot of modern elements to it that wouldn't be out of place for SNSD to wear today. And so on.

That was their key. Lots of different concepts but SNSD versions of those concepts, not becoming someone else entirely. So you always knew "yup this is still SNSD" whenever they changed it up.
