[Breaking News] Multiple deaths and injuries reported after man plows into pedestrians with truck in lower Manhattan

This is honestly so scary. My sister goes to Stuyvesant High School and they've been under lockdown for over an hour. She just texted me a while ago saying that she looked out the window and it was a full of ambulances and cops, and her classmates were shocked to see the coast guard with guns.

Apparently, the driver was driving in the bike lane and was also on the wrong side of the road. He hit multiple bikers and pedestrians, some of whom unfortunately were killed.

This is not something that should be happening so often that people come to see acts of terror like this as just another day "living in the big city" as someone above so cruelly stated. And to that same person, have some remorse and stop normalizing terrorism.

I can't imagine how scary it must be for her and the other students in that school :/

i seriously hate it how people bring up London's mayor into everything and how they always take his word out of context. what he meant was that terrorist attacks can never be stopped in big cities even if we try, which is true. its a fact, he didnt say we should accept terrorist attacks, but that we cant stop all of them

What does London's mayor have to do with this?

There was a user above who commented something like how people living in "big cities" should come to expect stuff like this and accept it.

I think their comment got removed after all the negs.

Yea, I agree with the mayor, although I'm only basing it on what you're telling me. It's not surprising that more crimes and terrorist attacks happen in large cities; I mean, usually, those are "hotspots".

I just think it's sick that it happened literally in front of a high school as students were about to be let out for the day. No kid should grow up being used to lockdowns, bomb threats, shooting alerts. Literally 2 weeks ago, there was a shooting around Columbus Circle, near my college. They also had to shut down the college then. Even though in a way, this is something we're starting to become used to seeing (unfortunately), we should try to remember that it shouldn't be happening in the first place; that terror threats or people being shot, is actually not the norm. I know people who now have this mentality of "Another shooting? Damn, I hope there's no traffic" instead of being shocked, remorseful or angry at the perpetrator.

And I'm pretty sure the commenter who I mentioned above was either a troll or someone who just lacks a heart.

Even if you think Americans are unfairly blaming it on muslims I think its a mistake to censor their speech on twitter and other social media. Because people need to vent even if its unresonable but liberals keep shielding muslims to a ridiculous degree.

I mean I'm sorry to inject Kpop into a serious situation but you know that thing Kpop fans do where they shield their faves to a insane degree and it only gets them more ridicule? That's the same dynamic with muslims and white liberals. White liberals shield muslims to a insane degree and it only generates a bigger backlash from the people on the right. Paradoxically their defense of muslims generates a bigger backlash against muslims.

And its not like white liberals defense of muslims is nuanaced MLK jr type poemic its blah blah blah white men are the real terrorists schoolyard taunting.

And no its not some slipper slope where people being allowed to criticise Islam creates a bigger Islamophobia, what creates Islamophobia is people not being allowed to vent which drives them further underground and further to the right.

Any form of censorship under the guise of fighting "hate speech" will backfire in the end.

Although I'm in Brooklyn, not Manhattan, I just can't believe how such an attack could happen. These terrorists just won't stop...but us New Yorkers will remain as strong as ever & won't back down! My condolences to all the victims of today's very sad tragedy. So unfortunate. :(

God when will all this end. It's like every week there is some sort of devastation and travesty...

My condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and I hope the injured get fully recovered very soon. I really hate seeing things like this becoming so frequent lately.
