why do people ban themselves when they leave OH?

They might be tempted to come back... so maybe self-banning prevents that from happening? idk really...

maybe to stop themselves from coming back? people deactivate twitter when they wanna take a break. it's probably the same thing.

To stop themselves from using it? Maybe they’re trying to curb an addiction to OH

I've thought about it, but the thing is, you can come back very easily with just an email or through another OH-er.  so if the purpose is to stop coming back to OH, I'd say it isn't very effective imo

yeah but you can do that with twitter too, hell all you need to do is just log back in. but i'm assuming people just don't want to make the effort to go through all those channels if they want a true break.

I banned myself from the bashing thread because now i have to go through the effort of actually going back to the mods to unban myself if I want to see the thread and and that gives me valuable seconds of reconsidering

probably the same principle applies

It's effort trying to make another account though, whereas if you weren't banned- you could just log on and post i guess
