What is the difference between talking over a beat and rapping?

I like hip hop and I enjoy khiphop but with all of the idol rappers out there (and their fans who swear they rap “so wellâ€) what sets apart the true rappers from those that talk over a beat?

I know that there are some legitimately good rappers out there in kpop but what sets them apart? is it just flow? Lyrical content? Also, I know there are dIfferent kinds of rappers so for those that actually can claim the title, what differentiates them from each other?

Tbh a lot of it comes down to flow and breath control imo. I don't know as much about rapping technique as I've never actually tried to learn how it works, but a lot of it for me is where they're breathing, how they're saying their lyrics, where they choose pauses, et cetera. I think freestyling is a big part of it as well, which is where most kpop rappers kinda lose me tbh

What makes a good rapper to me is a rhythm, flow, cadence, and control. But thats just technical aspects, I consider rappers to be poets of sorts as well so they have to have to be good lyricists as well -- rhyming, word play, word choice are all aspects of what make a rapper good as well.

This I agree with.
