Why I Think The Japan Tour Will Be The Unveiling Of A New Babymetal
 
 
What I am proposing here might be laughed at, even mocked and downvoted, but here's why I think we might see something during the Japan Tour that, depending upon it's execution, might leave the fandom in total disarray or united with full support.

 

Exhibit 1: The Merch.

If you look at most of the merch for the upcoming tour, it is mostly centered around one thing: The Chosen Seven, which seems to imply that The Chosen Seven is an important theme for the upcoming shows.
 

Exhibit 2: The Message.

Let's take a look at the "important announcement" Babymetal poste on their website:
 

Thank you for continually supporting BABYMETAL. We would like to inform you of BABYMETAL’s new beginning which will be effective starting this month’s BABYMETAL WORLD TOUR 2018 in JAPAN performances.

YUIMETAL had expressed her desire to return performing with the group in the following months after last December’s performance due health concerns. During her absence, both SU-METAL and MOAMETAL as well as the entire staff team had been preparing for her awaited return. However, YUIMETAL came to a decision that she will not be performing at BABYMETAL WORLD TOUR 2018 in JAPAN and that she will no longer be a part of BABYMETAL. We thank her for all of her contributions and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.

This month’s BABYMETAL WORLD TOUR 2018 in JAPAN will mark the rebirth in which SU-METAL and MOAMETAL form the core of BABYMETAL.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the fans for the continued support and look forward in what’s next for BABYMETAL.

 

As heartbroken as we all are about Yui having left Babymetal (I'm so upset that I have not watched the new video yet) We have to focus on the bit in bold which talks about Su & Moa forming the core in the rebirth of Babymetal, which brings me to the image posted along with this Tweet:

Su and Moa forming the core of the re-birth of Babymetal along with the other 5 shrouded faces - the question being, who are the 5 shrouded faces?

I can see this going two ways:

1) Su+Moa+New Member+Kami Band

With each member of The Kami Band bring presented at each concert and the new girl being presented during the final concert at SSA.

OR

2) The Kami Band being kept separate from Babymetal with a new member being presented at each concert and we get to see the full lineup at SSA, after the 5th an final member is presented. This, I can see completely dividing the fandom, already hurting from the past year.

Thoughts?

Hmm, i wouldn't be too sure about that. While i'm thinking like a lot of people on reddit and discord do too, that a third member is needed for balance, the

sounds for me very much like they will go with two members + band and they will rebirth probably more with changing the whole show to integrate Moa differently. But we will know soon

They did "rebirth" alright, and it looks pretty messy so far. Moametal is somewhat demoted now and one of 6 dancers, and barely recognizable. I mean that picture is her! And don't even think that poor Su-metal got off any better. And don't get me started about the fanbase, which has erruptet into a part-time warzone since Yui left.

That's actually the worst part of all in that situation for me. Instead of letting the change cool of some days and then have a somewhat more objective perspective, a lot of people are jumping the hate train...

 

Yes, their new hairstyle and stage setup is a big change but personally i like that change and willing to give it a try (especially since a lot of praise came from the ones being at the show whereas most criticism came from people not attending).

 

And starlight played live is such a godlike song - i totally hope they bring out at least one Delorean of the shows (most likely the dark night carnival) and i would buy it for starlight alone

 

I'm giving these changes a chance and will wait to see how it will be in the next episode. Guess they will change some things up which just couldn't be changed in a rather short time (keep in mind that such big shows need months of preparation). And you can't make Moa not look beautiful. I think she looks totally badass with that hairstyle

Only corporations with shareholders breathing down their necks would come up with these sort of ideas. The shortness of the current shows of an meager hour feels more like Kobametals sort of thinking, to protect Moametal somewhat from fatigue, to prevent that she ends up like poor Yui.

 

There is still a lot of old stuff i have to catch up, and pre-2017 Blurays to buy, but i have to admit my enthusiasm is somewhat dampend.

People tend to forget that the current setup would work with three people too if Yui would be present. When they stand triangle like with Su in the front and Moa right behind her with one dancer and the others in the third row (like they did for some songs) it could very much be, that originally Yui would have been besides Moa in the second row. And what you don't see that good in fancams but everyone at the show says - Moa was always highlighted with the lights the same as Su while the others were not illuminated - i can imagine even without Yuis absence they would have opted for that setup with the three being the highlighted part in the front of the triangle. But noone will ever know - all we have are fan theories what that all means and none of these theories is better than the others.

 

And for the lenght - for a one man show in a big venue it was more on the short side, thats true, but that was more because of the new songs having "normal" radio friendly length. Songs like Headbanger, IDZ, Meta Taro or 4noUta which are really long because of the C&R weren't played. Alone from the numbers it were more songs than last years Five Fox festival for example which was even shorter than this year's Makuhari show.

 

I see a lot of people interpreting everything so negatively like you, but in my opinion there's no reason to be that pessimistic. And most of them are relatively new fans anyway which don't know what Babymetal was some years ago and that being predictable is the last thing people should expect from Babymetal ;)

That picture is so cool  First time a clear picture of the new girls, costumes and hairstyle and in my opinions thats definitely something they can work with in the future. Looks like it's well received too in the community and slowly it's getting back to normal there ;) Not everyone just freaking out without seeing anything of the shows and clear pictures.

That picture is nice enough, but also reinforces my opinion that Moametal is now just another dancer, easily replacable on a whim. They even picked at least three girls looking very similar to Moa, while giving her the same clothes and haircut they have. Thats no coincidence, not with someone like Kobametal, who cares so much for details.

True, but Su also wears the same and while Su and Moa have the same makeup, that of the dancers is different. So yeah, they all have similar style and outfit but they are clearly distinguishable. And like someone on reddit pointed out - in Meta Taro Su sung Yui's part which is kind of super odd but on the other hand it fitted the stage and it actually highlighted Moa as more Su like in contrast to the other dancers. I could also imagine that they want to give Moa an upgrade and Babymetal is still in a transitional state after Yui's departure. It's all kind of confusing, in the end it could be as negative as you think it will be, but it might end up really different.

 

And i actually really like these new outfits - they are more mature looking than the endless varieties of their base style and costum they had over the years. I like that development.

 

All in all they've shown that their shows are still great (reactions from concert goers were almost exclusivley positive) albeit Yui missing and that people can look forward to a new kind of Babymetal without loosing fewer things than it looks on the first glance.

They even picked at least three girls looking very similar to Moa, while giving her the same clothes and haircut 

 

Honestly i don't think they look very much like MOA at all, don't really see where people get that from.

 

Also SU and MOA both have a mid-part hair thing going on while the the dancers have ponytail bun type deals.

Yeah, I thought as much.  Su & Moa for the modelling, the interviews etc., The 5 dancers though on stage during the live shows are persona non grata otherwise - as it should be!

Amuse has finally figured another way to piss off the fans, and has removed plenty of Babymetal youtube videos. There is a reddit thread about. I've started to download whatever Babymetal video i had on my list. Amuse, give us a rest already.

Looks like they have the triangle back with Su+Moa+ anonymous dancer. It would be better to get a replacement for Yui than going the anonymous dancer route.

But it's nice to see that little bit of pro recording and them being able to release a full recording since they have the material And Babymetal with Darth Vader on the stage looks so cool - Moa is so happy.

Look very carefully, the classic three member setup is there - with the other four at the back. It's extremely possibly they were waiting for Yui to be back but she backed out at the last minute.  I don't believe they're going to take 7 members on foreign tours (since this only works with a big stage setup), but do I believe that we'll get either three or four girls on stage - we'll see what happens in Singapore & Australia.

 

 

I'm still NOT a fan of the make-up/hair/costumes, though. I'll admit that it comes through better than I thought it would but I'm just not a fan. That's not to say that I want the pony/pigtails back, either.

They always do a purge when new material is about to drop. We should have a new album in our hands within the next six months.

I don't think that Yui would tell anyone that she is leaving a few days before a show. She fell down a stage once, and went up the next possible moment. Clearly she is loyal and dedicated, and wouldn't set up Moa and Suzuka like that. Amuse just announced it very late in the game. To come back after a year would require plenty of training to get her back into shape, and the official announcement stated that she never returned in the first place.

 

Some of the videos they took down were there well before Metal Resistance was released.
