BM message for Summer Sonic 2016

 

Well, that was a massive mistake! The announcement should have been made in Japanese or two announcements should have been made - one in Japanese and the other in English. The Japanese subtitles only serve to add insult to injury. This unintentionally comes off as a slap in the face of every Japanese artist who has tried to make it internationally and failed. :/

 

I called CL a "try-hard" for her all-english debut single. I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't call BM out for this boo-boo!

BM is not about albums, it's more about the live shows. Make sure you go and watch one if you haven't.

I want to see them in the UK but I'm really not interested in the Red Hot Chili Peppers  :lol:

 

Well, hold on for a few months, they'll show up next year in the UK for headline concerts, in April or May, sometime.

Babymetal is going to open for Metallica on 11th January, 2017 at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea, no less! :lol:

Back to the present, Babymetal has, for the third time, entered the Billboard Year End World Album Charts, this time at #3, being the only act from Asia, this year, to hit the top 5!

"Artists have to ask themselves who they are, what they represent and what kind of unique qualities they have. It is not a must for artists to copy everything from Western stars," said Joanna Huang, former vice-president of international record company EMI in the China region.

 

She points out that Asian record companies, including Korean and Japanese ones, did try to try to crack the international market by hiring big-name producers and releasing English albums, but to little effect. She thinks integrating unique cultural elements into music production may be part of the answer.

 

 

She cites the example of Babymetal, a Japanese metal band featuring three teenage girls. Even though the band caters to a niche market, it has been received positively by Western audiences. "Metal does not originate from Asia. But they manage to mix the kawaii [cuteness] and heavy metal elements together."
