Stop saying that they flopped cos they didn't.

Just look at Exo they didn't win anything on music shows when they promoted MAMA. And look how successfull they are now.

Got7 just debuted a couple of moths ago (and they already gained a lot of fans).

well exo did sell 100k + for Mama so..... just saying

Got7 didn't flop but they didn't excel. It was a pretty average debut considering they're from JYP. I think what really hurt them was when they stopped promotions of their mini b/c sales during that time were pretty low

quoting a thread about this

http://onehallyu.com/index.php?/topic/47798-why-do-people-think-got7-is-flopping/

People have been saying that GOT7 flopped hard and made threads like "until when will they last?". This is really making me question what the word flop actually means.

Digitally GOT7 apparently have the highest charting debut song(#21) by a male group since CNBLUE by overtaking JJ Project(#30) on Gaon digital chart. But people might argue that gaon changed it system into more download dependent and all, but still it is a high debut for a boy group in recent years.

Physically, they have sold 34K albums on Gaon by feb end i.e in 38days

So, we have B.A.P on gaon was 18K in 1 month and 6 days...

And EXO is at 85K in 1 month and 21days on Gaon.

So, we have GOT7 here doing only second to EXO counting all idol groups debut since 2011(though the difference is big, but JYP Groups were never near SM in physicals anyway).

and want to add this post here

Allow me to straighten out people's expectations:

The only seven rookie male groups to pass 10K copies on Gaon since 2012 with a debut album:
Exo, BAP, Nu'est, JJ Project, Bangtan. (Bangtan is the only one from 2013)

Got7 has now passed 10K copies on Hanteo which means Gaon will be above 10K next month also, making them only the 6th out of 46 groups debuting since 2012 to pass that mark (counted off of Wikipedia, there may be more than 46). Extend back to 2011, it makes them the 8th out of 65 groups to do so. (the 2011 groups to pass 10K were Boyfriend and B1A4; note Block B's first physical release passed 10K but it was not their debut; their debut single was released digitally only)

Lots of people think "but they're from the Big 3, isn't this a flop for the Big 3?"

For reference, 2PM's debut single sold 21K on Hanteo. 2AM's sold 13K. Even if Got7 does not hold anymore fansigns, they will pass 2AM's sales mark. If they do more, they could pass 2PM. Additional reminder that a grand total of 4 male idol groups debuted in 2008. Got7 was the 3rd male group to debut this year and they debuted 2 weeks into January.

Being in the Big 3 has already made a difference, because FYI this is what real flops look like:

(this is all the 2012 and 2013 rookie groups I have on record that had <5K on Gaon)

2012
C-Clown - Not Alone 2592
A-Jax - 2MYX 2856
Phantom - Phantom City 3000
Tasty - Spectrum 3434
C-Clown - Young Love 4140

2013
24K - U R So Cute 1042
Iconize - Iconize 1357
A-Jax - Snake 1442
History - Dramer 1515
M.Pire - New Born 1648
History - Just Now 1711
LC9 - Skirmish 1727
A-Prince - Mambo 1731
A-Jax - Insane 2067
History - Blue Spring 2069
Lunafly - Fly to Love 2188
Bigstar - Hang Out 2207
Mr.Mr - Waiting For You 2208
Topp Dogg - Cigarette 2474
Topp Dogg - Dogg's Out 2691
Speed - Superior Speed 2726
Tasty - Spectacular 2732
Phantom - Phantom Theory 2825
Boys Republic - Identity 3719

It's been a tragedy for most rookies since 2011. Some of these aren't even debut albums, they're 2nd and 3rd albums. Most male groups never even made it into the top 100 on monthly charts, which means they managed only a few hundred copies. Frankly, 10K is already an achievement. Stop using Exo and B.A.P as standards. They are both extreme outliers and are exceptions, not the rule.

So, I really can't understand how GOT7 is a flop. Though they may not be a hit, but not a flop as far as I know .

I think the problem with GOT7's debut was that their song didn't sound like a debut song. It sounded as if it were something they could have released well into their career. It was just kind of meh.  In other words, it needed to be more. Take Exo for example — MAMA was an incredible song to debut with. It got people talking, even though some of the talk was negative. JYP just needed to put more thought into their debut, because it seemed really subpar to me.

Digitally, yeah they flopped overall, but physically, they did decently still. They managed to sell more than 2am's debut and around the same (maybe more, I lost track now ) than 2pm's. JYPE doesn't exactly have strong physical sellers other than 2pm.

I've never seen any bad comment about them tho, nor did i see people talking shit about them. K-netz love them, i-fans like them too. IF you see anyone bashing them, then just ignore them. Every group has haters, they will eventually go away.

And OP, the only reason EXO never won on Music Shows with MAMA was bc SMP songs flop on the Digital charts. If they promoted another song, they'd have won, cuz they had the fanvotes and amazing physical sales.
