A Question for ELFs..,

what keeps you stanning for a group with so many controversies?

And these aren't run of the mill, harmless controversies either. It seems like throughout the years the members of SuJu have proven time and time again they simply aren't... very good people.

This isn't a bash, I'm honestly really curious

I myself judge which controversies I find serious and which not, not bandwagoning on the hate. I find Kangin's controversy the most serious and that's it. I never thought of them as bad people at all. They are quite charming too. I believe one action or few words don't determine one's personality, so I look at it as a whole. There are members I like more, there are members I like less, but overall I don't have anything to be ashamed of while stanning. There are some incredibly kind people in Suju too. They way Sungmin's controversy was handled was also disappointing, but that's it for me.

I love their music, it's probably the hardest thing to let go, nothing in Kpop really interests me the way their music does.

edit: Since this thread was triggered by Siwon's dog.. I analyzed the issue, read all articles and based my opinion on that too.. The issue is disheartening, but I don't see how it should lower my opinion of Super Junior at all.

other than Kangin's DUI, i don't see how SJ's controversies are any different from many other kpop idols'. it is just that most kpop fans convinced themselves that SJ are the most or even only problematic kpop idols even when most of them stan idols that did and keep doing similar and even worse things.

because i like their music and i don't pretend to be fake woke like more than half of the kpop fandom lol most people scream about things some sj members have done while liking idols who did the same or worse and if you'd followed super junior you would know that yes they did fucked up sometimes but a lot of things are either exaggerated or already apologized for.

also, we can't really judge a person based only on their mistakes.

A. I like their music

B. It's entirely possible to love someone and think they're an idiot.

C. They're charming and funny.

D. They're very good at acknowledging and apologizing for their mistakes.

All of these, basically.

The most so called controversy are simply blown up from haters and took out of context on purpose and spread around. There are only few ones which are rlly legit, as Kangin´s DUI for example. But here again, SJ arent the only ones who did this or that shit, others did same or worse. Only haters like to ride on it more. So i dont have a real problem stan them as Group. Yes, i am still mad at the one or another member for the Sungmin issue, but i am not ready to unfollow them bc of it as we still dont know the full story. And i like the Music. In whole picture i like the members and music so i dont have a problem to stan them.

As an ELF who have follow them for 7 years, I think except for kangin's DUI, their controversy are always being exagerated . Still, they already apologizes a lot.

For years, I already witness they did so many good deeds that makes me want to be a better person too. I learn a lot from them

Would you elaborate why you think they aren't good people?

After following them for many years I have a polar opposite impression and so does the entire Industry. People only say good stuff about them and their personalities.

Most of their "controversies" are taken out of proportion anyways. Except for Kangin's DUIs. And I also could care less about being a SJW and nitpicking what they should say or do so I canhave personal satisfaction. I regard them as people and I accept occasional mistakes. I don't care at all, they're only human too.

I like their music, their looks, their personalities, their voices, and their interactions. I don't care about them being supposedly "problematic", this is all bullshit to me -- they're human like everyone else is and if I like someone, I don't care if they're popular or not. I won't change how I feel and jump on a meaningless hate bandwagon just because others think it's weird for me to like them. All that matters is my own personal feelings, everyone else can go drown. This is basically my stance in everything fandom, you could say I have no fake morals when it comes to my personal entertainment. smile.png

You said my previous badge arrangement made me look like a delulu shipper so now I changed everything in order to look more like a deranged ELF, which is thrilling me even more hurrplz.png

Why are you even surprised, he's always been my 3rd suju bias, smh

Their personalities drew me in as a fan. I love their songs as well, however, what made them stood out was they were pretty relatable in a way. They are not perfect (no one is) but they do not seem to be afraid to show who they are (like most 2nd gen groups). They make mistakes just like many other idols and many people in the world...and they apologize for their mistakes. They tell all sorts of stories (arguments, sadness, etc.) and do weird things (cosplaying at the airport) just for fans. They seem to love doing what they're doing (singing, acting, MC) and it shows in whatever they do. Disliking SUJU has always been a norm since they debutted. They're not problematic...rather all their problematic actions are just like other idols...it's hugely exaggerated.

Like many others, I don't think that SJ members are that problematic. Kangin's DUI is unforgivable but other members? I don't think they have done anything problematic. They might be insensitive sometimes but they are just normal human beings who do silly mistakes sometimes and what I admire most is that they apologised for their mistakes and tried to improve themselves. (Most of them have not repeated the same mistake twice, and those members are the ones I admire.) They are always trying to be their better selves (from what I have seen) and this is something that I am trying to learn from them. Most of the incidents are just really unfortunate.

I've been a fan of Super Junior for more than 6 years now and I've always loved their music, their personalities, their group dynamic etc. I'm not a hardcore ELF anymore, but I still like them a lot and their scandals (other than Kangin's of course) are hardly reasons to stop liking them. Nothing they have done has given me the impression that they are not good people, especially when they have genuinely apologized for the most "controversial" stuff they have done. The only thing that put me off them lately was how they handled the Sungmin issue.

And not to drag other groups and idols into this, but it can be a bit frustrating that a lot of people who are hating on SJ stan groups and idols that have done a lot of the same "controversial" stuff (excluding Kangin's case ofc, cause no one is justifying that). I just can't take the haters serisously because of that. If you hate one person for doing something and still love another even though they have done the same, you're just a hypocrite, and that's clearly the case with many SJ haters. They're just bandwagoning and obviously don't know the specifics of what they're talking about.

other than kangin dui their controversies are the same like other idols did. yet there are idol whom more problematic/did worse than suju but i dont see any kpop fans talking about them like they talk about suju.

they made mistakes, everyone does, bcoz they are human too. but their called mistakes/controversies are just the same like other idols did. but kpop fans act like they kill everyones mother instead. if you thinking logically the hate toward them is kinda too much. it just blown out of propotion.

well i've been fan for almost 7 years. what made me stan them are mainly their music, their personality, their voices, and their looks ofc

I'm not that much of an ELF anymore but I still really like them.

As pretty much everyone here said, Kangin's DUI is the only actually serious controversy. I'm not an SJW, so I don't give a shit if they said something slightly mean. I don't know how you can judge if they're good people or not because they did something stupid, or said something you didn't like. Hell, even the DUI thing doesn't mean that Kangin is a bad person. Obviously, we don't know them in real life but to me, they seem like genuinely nice guys that care for their fans and people around them, despite their fuckups.

They have great music (which is the main reason I can't really "unstan" them), they're hilarious and they put out great performances.
