I recently got into podcasts and so far I've been listening to two podcasts; Lore and Stuff You Missed in History Class.

What are some podcasts worth listening to? I'm not too picky, I just want something fun and interesting to listen to.

Sounds really interesting, i'm definitely gonna listen to it! I have a weakness for podcasts like this ahmagahplz.png

I highly recommend it! The hosts are hilarious and every episode is super fun. I love going back to binge watch every episode, it's awesome! They upload every week as well so you get new content regularly laugh.png

Lol, I'll list what I'm listening to. I also just got into podcasts earlier this month.

Our Fake History is another history based one that separates fact from fiction in history/myths/legends.

Are you interested in true crime stuff?

I listen to My Favorite Murder the most. It doesn't often get extremely heavy bc the two hosts often sprinkle humor in and it's like sitting with your friends while they take over the conversation to a point where they sometimes go off on tangents about something irrelevant to the crime.

It might be a hit or miss bc they're not the most researched one (they know this) but you still get good coverage and they're very passionate about the subject, you can tell why they've started the podcast.

But if you want very straight forward 'definitely-know-their-facts' one for true crime, I also listen to Generation Why. They're excellent. I've heard "Casefile" and "Someone Knows Something" (he does one case over one season of episodes) are good too in that regard, but I haven't gotten around to listening to those yet.

Audio dramas are also fascinating. I listen to Uncanny County. It's a different story every episode but they might pull in characters from previous ones so I'd recommend to start from the beginning. There's only 13 eps so far.

This quirky, darkly comic, Southwestern-flavored anthology brings you a new paranormal audio play every month. Sit back, open your ears, and hold on tight. Because you're about to take a quick detour...through Uncanny County…

Currently on the hunt for another audio drama and a fairytale focused podcast tho. Hopefully, I'll get to some soon.

Our Fake History sounds fascinating.  Not gonna lie, I have a bias towards history  hurrplz.png

I've been reluctant with the true crime stuff, mostly because i get freaked out by them and get slightly paranoid knowing that since it happened to someone, it could also happen to me twitch.gifi'm the biggest baby.  I wasn't scared shitless by stuff like this when I was young, what is happening to me?? rlytearpls.png

I'm curious about audio stories.  I'm not a fan of audiobooks tbh, but I wanna check out audio stories cause I know I won't be able to read ahead :hehe:.

Thanks for all the recs!

I love ghost stories; rupaul one, alanis morissette too

Definitely gonna check out Rupaul one ahmagahplz.png

Welcome to Night Vale is my favorite podcast ever ahmagahplz.png Since I don't think I'd be able to describe it well, this is how it is described on their website

WELCOME TO NIGHT VALE is a twice-monthly podcast in the style of community updates for the small desert town of Night Vale, featuring local weather, news, announcements from the Sheriff's Secret Police, mysterious lights in the night sky, dark hooded figures with unknowable powers, and cultural events.

It has creepy vibes without being overwhelmingly scary, and it's really funny. The "host" is so lovable and as you learn more about the other characters you come to love them as well. You should definitely give it a try; once you're two or three episodes in it will probably make more sense as it might be a bit strange at first.

This one is quite popular from what I've seen.  I've been curious about it but it's gonna take me forever to catch up to it rlytearpls.png

Glad I could introduce you to some, happy listening!

I believe it was episode 18 - "was there a female pope?" that got me for OFH. I'd gone to Catholic school for years but, of course, they'd never touched on something like that whenever they'd talk of popes came around. lol, that whole episode was fascinating to me. I also really liked the female pirates episode. That's another favorite.

That feeling about true crime stuff, ditto. When I first started listening, I had a constant "I never want to be alone anywhere ever again" now the feeling just creeps. But moreso, it's gotten a little out of hand for my dad, he's approached me completely baffled because I now use the crime podcasts to help me nap.

MFM is a good beginning step, imo. I got a kick out of them trying to piece together just the names of the person and place of what happened in my hometown in the 70s. Of course, they were able to cover it more accurately and extensively in a later episode.

You actually don't have to start from the beginning! They have some episodes that can be stand alone and others that are good starting places aside from the beginning. Here's their "starter's guide" which tells you some episodes that would be good for that smile.png

I've already started downloading most of the podcasts that have been mentioned on here, so i'll definitely be having fun listening to them.

I've heard about the female pope thing (I'm Catholic but yeah, they don't teach this stuff in schools, mostly because the Church has written it off as pure myth/lies) but it's something I've always been curious about.  I love women in history ahmagahplz.png Badass women from throughout the ages is always interesting, especially since it's a side of history that isn't explored as much.

Omg listening to true crime has a naptime story :har: you must be so de-sensitized now, I'm jealous rlytearpls.png I can see why you're dad is baffled lol

Thank god, this makes things easier ahmagahplz.png I'll probably end up listening to every episode anyways, mostly because I hate not listening to the entirety of something

True Crime Stuff, if anyone interested:

Small Town Murder ( where they give you facts of some small towns and bg stories of the players before going in. )
Last Podcast on the Left ( cover extensively on so many cases and murderers. )
My Favorite Murder ( recommend their minisode only where they asked readers to email them their own small town murders or connections, their regular are too chatty and longwinded. )

Educational stuff:

Freakonomics Radio (Has some very interesting subjects and interviews relating to the economy and economics. Like Parking, and stupid things you can do with your money.)

Stuff they Don't Want You To Know ( Their latest topic: Did a cult try to run South Korea?, you already know.)

I know you want podcasts, but I thought you should know about these sites if you haven't.

Comedy/Comic:  (Where you'll be lost forever.)

Cracked also have a podcast, but their site is so much better than the podcast.

I thought everyone should know about Theoatmeal if they haven't. This is what you would get from them: How to use a selfie stick without bothering others.

RetailComic if you work in Retail.
