I assume Mnet just wanted to lick YG's ass somehow. The main issue was that IOI was both more successful and more related to Mnet than black pink so they were expected to win the rookie award,then YG was pissed and boycotted MAMA because it was always their groups who won the rookie award. Therefore Mnet gave the best music video and another special award to black pink to lick YG's ass and maybe get things better but didn't happen. There's been plenty of minor awards like best dance, MV, etc that needed no attendance wrong. minor awards are from the asian awards and the professional category, the only ones that don’t need attendance to win is awards that none of the nominees were attending like the best band performance last year that cnblue won but they didn’t attend, the best music video category, the other nominees were attending but they still gave the award to blackpink.
