Why no one really talks about sex workers in kpop industry? [POSSIBLE TRIGGER WARNING]

I've seen some little articles about how some companies use their trainees/artists/actors for sex work or escort. But I know very little about it. There is no doubt this thing is real. I wonder if there are some really big investigations/researches/articles on that problem? What do you think about that problem overall? I think thats a serious case, and every industry suffers from that. Are there any sexual harassment cases? Why no one talks about that (or I haven't seen something since I'm in kpop only for a year). Discuss.

If we had a REAL conservation of what probably goes down behind the scenes when it comes to the kpop industry a lot of us would probably Quit kpop altogether.

Call me whatever but ignorance is bless when it comes kpop for me....I made that choice when the Jiyeon tape came out...

i think it was weki meki's company that gave them a list of execs/people in the industry they should avoid.. i'm sure a lot of female and maybe male idols get sexually harassed behind the scenes. it's sad and happens in all entertainment industries when someone has power over someone else.

the reason no one talks about it is because it mainly happens to the nugu idols who not many people know or care about and who don't have a voice or the means to speak up or press charges. this is a fact. most of us are aware that it happens but because it's "not our faves" we just don't care. it's sad.

that's not necessarily true, in such a hierarchy based work environment it's not easy for someone who's at the bottom of the food chain and basically controlled by their company to speak up. no one really knows what happens behind the scenes, i remember seeing a video of jessica allegedly getting groped by some exec.

take an example from the harvey weinstein case. super high profile stars like angelina jolie didn't even speak up about it until a whole bunch of women started speaking about it.

I mean not every idol gets scouted for their voice or looks.....makes you think what lengths some of these trainess had to do to get into

these companies....and then the lengths they went to actually debut with said company

Years ago I remember reading about females Trainess getting drugged, sexually assaulted, and raped by the ceo of their company and were possibly forced to please the male labelmates that had already debuted

Right....i think to frame this as "only nugus go thru this" helps stans believe that there favs are safe and untouched which might not be the case.

you have a point there, but I sometimes have a thought that if korean society would be more aware of it, and let talk more about such problems (actual names are not even needed in some cases) some things could be avoided more often (like spreading of small (and sometimes even big) companies who use their idols for escort to earn money). I think thats can be considered illegal. So I hope that people from government would look more into it

I remember how Open World did some noise but people basically forget it. And many people in comments (korea) was bashing idols... unimpressed.png

I guess they want talk but in same time, they are public figure so not everyone would like have this 'label' as people raped or anything...

And most of 'victims' are from nugu agency so don't dare said anything. It's not as easy that we could think.

And thats one of the saddest moments in this whole case. There are definitely gonna be labels, and in saddens me a lot

It's hard to believe this would happen in a big company since they have good reputation for a reason. But it's possible, since at least in Weinstein case his company won a lot of oscars and he harassed big stars like Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie who stayed quiet for a long time, also even strong men like Terry Crews had to go through this shit. Corey Feldman was a kid who got success mostly bc of his talent than his looks and still was abused, Corey Haim was one of the biggest celebs of the 80's and was raped in a film set when he was only 11, so unfortunately, it's likely this shit happens in big kpop companies too, not only nugus (it still is unfortunate either way).

It must happen. Entertainment industry is mostly about contacts, and this is especially important if you're trying to make it big. I would imagine that the senior popular groups wouldn't really need to, because they're well supported by a stable fanbase, but reasonably smaller companies, might be more inclined to do that, if they believe their artists are not generating enough profit for them. Then we have casting/auditions, and God knows if its all legit. Anythings possible.

i kind of phrased what i meant wrongly. i do belive it probably happens more than we know to a lot of idols, popular or no. but i think the people who suffer from the most extreme cases are the ones in companies with a lot of debt, not a lot of money in the first place ect. most of the stories i've personally heard are of trainees being promised to debut if they do escort work ect.

Yeah this is an extremely difficult subject to talk about. Especially because it could involve many of our favorite kids.

The guy in my DP had to legally change his name to stay with his group. The group fell apart and rarely left Japan. But they are another group that debuted in 2012, so the company is hoping that they can do better if they try to launch a comeback now.

Someone posted a video of him masturbating online. I have watched the video, it is definitely him. But I have been wondering if he made that tape with some backseat pornography company or if he was forced to do it by wealthy sponsors or even his own company.

I heard of a young actress who was 17 when she went to work at a reputable agency who gave her a roll in a project that went really well. But when the agency called he in for another project she was forced that day to make a sex tape if she wanted the new role. The company president promised that no one would see it if she kept quiet and accepted the roles they gave her.

Well, night she turned 18 the agency called and asked her to go to a hotel room for a surprise birthday party. She refused because she was at a restaurant with her family across town. And the next morning she got a call from the company President and when she arrived he was waiting for her with two men she didn't know and a camera.

She was terrified and tried to get out but he slapped her hard enough to land her on the nearby sofa. The president said that he warned her that she

Had to obey them and that she hadn't. Long story short, one of the men raped her and the other one taped it.

The next few roles they gave her were good and she was praised for her performances.

But the president told her that she was going to have to do a scene where she would be partially naked in the new project.

She thought that her age would protect her. But she was hit with a breech of contact and the company released the two videos. She tried TWICE to kill herself but her parents saved her both times and the whole family ended up moving to the US.
