Girl group Berry Good, who have been working with new member Johyun since last November, returned with new song ‘Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo’ on the 16th of last month after a break of about six months. Gowoon: When she came, I was worried about how we would get along with the new member, but it seems that we have become one while preparing this album. I feel like we’ve been working together since the beginning. (laughs)

 

You came back with ‘Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo’. How about a short introduction to the new song?

Taeha: There are a lot of friends who say that there is no dream among our peers these days. It is a song for such friends. It is a message that dreaming begins with me if I love myself. It is a song expressing the hearts of girls who want to dream freely.

 

The stage costume is ‘part-timers concept’. Whose idea was it to attract attention with a unique concept?

Johyun: It is an idea of our company representative and of us. In order to fulfil their dreams, our friends not only study, but also work part-time and are busy day and night, and we would like to share with them a message to work together: that’s how this concept was born. As soon as everyone heard the concept, they were happy.

Gowoon: Colorful stage costumes are nice, but costumes with such messages are also good.

Daye: I like the concept because it is clear. No one can tell we are not part-timers. I once went to a broadcasting station for a music broadcast, and I heard someone say “McDonald!†I was proud of it. (laughs)

 

The part-time uniforms are very pretty.

Taeha: I used to hear the word ‘pretty’ only from our fans, but now it seems that more people than before know Berry Good. Comments increased a lot (laughs). I read them all. There are some bad words, but I can see my shortcomings with the gaze of others, so I try to read without missing a comment.

Daye: I once read a comment saying that that person was on his way home after par-time ended. As we were preparing an album, it was a dream situation and I was proud and thankful.

 

I wonder if you have actually experienced part-time work.

Taeha: None of us has ever worked part-time.

Seoyul: I have tried to do a part time job once. I had to make deliveries, but I couldn’t do it in the end.

 

If it was just about deliveries, why weren’t you able to do it?

Seoyul: It was the time of passing from being a trainee to the debut group. When you debut, even if you just have to take a profile photo there are schedules to digest, but time is not constant. I spent most of my time preparing for practice and debut, so I didn’t have time for a part-time job.

 

If you had experienced part-time jobs, you would have been more sympathetic for your preparation for this album.

Johyun: That’s why we recently took a day at the Kintex furniture fair. We sold cushions to those who attended the fair, but there aren’t easy things in the world (laughs). We wanted to spend the earnings on good work, so we donated them in full.

 

Were there any particular difficulties during your training period?

Daye: I wanted to show my hard work, I imagined my appearance after debuting and I stayed in the practice room until late. It was hard to afford a taxi fare because the house was far from the practice room. (laughs)

Sehyung: When I see the pictures of Berry Good first year members in 2014 hanging in the practice room, I still remember when I was stretching and practicing choreography with determination.

 

Is there a positive energy overflowing? You seem to become more and more beautiful. Did you work hard on diet?

Gowoon: This time it’s not because of dieting. Daye, Sehyung and I graduated from high school and became adults. It seems to me that there’s a matureness that never existed before. (laughs)

Daye: This year marks the third year since our debut. Everyone knows how to look the most beautiful. So we are the busiest before stepping on stage.

 

This is the second album since Johyun joined Berry Good.

Johyun: ‘Don’t Believe’ was to learn and adapt. I got a lot of help from the members. Now I am confident and greedy. A few days ago, someone said, “The other girl groups are pure, sexy or cute, and Berry Good has a friendly and humane image. I like the way they lay down their greed and work hard.†I heard it and I felt proud and tearful. As a member of Berry Good, I have a sense of responsibility.

 

You have been attracting much attention by appearing in entertainment programs such as ‘SNL Korea’ and ‘Golden Tambourine’. Maybe it’s a shame that a newly-debuted newcomer gets this attention?

Johyun: At first, I was burdened and worried. “I do not know, let’s try it once†was my mindset. I passionately did it without thinking about anything. It’s still not enough, but I think everything will be an experience.

 

In ‘Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo’ teaser, we see Johyun ice-skating.

Johyun: I like exercising. Inline skating, ski, short track, water skiing, and so on, I like ‘burning sports’. I also worked as a short track player until the first year of junior high school. I was first in the 500 meters race in Seoul Metropolitan City championship.

 

Berry Good’s album goal?

Gowoon: I dreamed of being in the 50th place on the Melon chart, but there are still a lot of shortcomings so it was hard to chart on it. But it was in the top 100 on the dance song chart. (laughs) I want Berry Good to become a group that enters all the chart and I’ll work hard for it.

Seoyul: I want to try a mini concert. There are many things that we can show each other but we had no chance.

Johyun: This time, it seems like we left an impression for sure with the part-timers concept. Now I want Berry Good to come to mind when you see part-time jobs insertions on websites. (laughs)

Daye: We recently announced a busking performance on SNS and a lot of people came to watch it. The citizens who passed by also watched our performance and cheered on us. It was a different experience and it was good because it was an opportunity to show Berry Good. I want to try busking again before the end of this album promotion.

Taeha: ‘Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo’ is hopeful and full of positive energy. Thanks to that, there are more eyes that watch Berry Good positively. I am very grateful for such things and I want to do various activities. I want to stand on a stage like K-Con.

Sehyung: Now it seems to be the beginning. All members are having fun. I believe that at any given moment, we will be recognized if the six of us get together and work hard.
