In actuality, aren't only like 4 of the Stray Kids necessary to make a decent group

so i watched their showcase perf 

 

 

 

and i kind of felt that some of the members didn't really add much to the overall experience this isn't meant to be a bash btw, just discussion.

 

personally speaking, the people that stood out to me the most were 

 

felix

 

chan

 

jisung

 

hyunjin

 

 

 

 

and yeah, all of them are rappers but chan and jisung have shown they can sing in hellavator and imo they have the best vocals in the whole group. and these are (arguably) the most visually appealing members on top of that.

 

i just don't get why some companies are so afraid of small groups. more members doesn't equal success, and when you have a good combo of 4-5 people, why not just let it be? quartets have been proven to be marketable and capable of success. mamamoo and black pink are the most recent proof. 

 

i heard no one in stray kids will be eliminated?  well, at the end of the day i just hope they get a decent concept and some nice music.

i don't know enough about stray kids to give an opinion about their members, but overall i agree w the idea that smaller groups can be just as good or better than larger groups. lately i feel like rookie groups w/ +9 members have been growing more common, and personally it discourages me from getting involved... there are bound to be criticisms of "useless" members who are talent/visual/whatever "holes". but then again... super junior and exo did just fine

Woojin, jungjin, and sungmin are the best singers in the group, the vocals didn't get to shine because it was a rap focused song, delete this thread tbh

but it's not even about that? this is a criticism of companies that think more is always better and debut people who just aren't ready and probably never will be because they think more is better.

sorry, but even in hellavator i wasn't that impressed by the "vocal line".  as i said, chan and jisung can sing, so if jype wants an actual hip pop group, why not go all the way and debut rappers, some of who can double as sub vocals anyways? sorry if i struck a nerve, but this is just friendly discussion. i'm not bashing so

That's your opinion sis, but it is straight up false and I just found it weird that you went and made an entire thread analyzing a group you seem to know the bare minimum about, in your analysis you left out the entire vocal line, the best rapper and dancer in the group, so I have every reason to think your entire deduction is ridiculous 

and it has been stated that they boys will be doing various styles and genres throughout the show, so no they will not just be hip hop focused, which is when they're going to need the vocal line that you feel they can do without

Honestly most of the recently successful boy groups have 7+ members. I can see why companies would stick to that format. Also, each member brings something new/creative to the plate that can attract more fans. I really don't see how it can be construed as a bad thing to have more members. Some groups have more members some have less. It's just how things work out.

I mean, you're basing that on the showcase performance which is a cover of a song not even meant for them? Obviously they also have Hellevator but if you had watched that it's weird you would single out just those 4 members when others stood out and carried the group just as much?

 

I actually do get some of your points, but eh, debuting big groups is a trend nowadays, and Stray Kids at least is showing they have potential and could be a group that doesn't have as many dead weight members as most big groups? Who knows.

You took out the whole vocal line(including the main vocalist) and the main rapper of the group? But to answer your question no not only 4 members are necessary especially when you took out arguably the most useful members (main vocalist and main rapper.)
