What can you say about hipster fans?

Those people who love to stan nugus, but when those groups become "mainstream" or "popular" feel those groups sold out and unstan? Like I get people who unstan because a group made a career direction/overhaul that no longer suit your taste (change in music/image) or a scandal happened, but I legit see people who lose interest in idols who become popular imstupid.png

What's with this pointless exclusivity?

Edit: Weirdly I didn't experience this with BTS, but with another group and an actor/singer I liked. We were OG stans of _________ group and actor/singer ________ then when both blew up, most of my OG fan friends went on to stan other nugus lol.

I'll be honest, im probably one of those type of fans, but there's usually a reason.

1- fandom is important to me and it usually starts to get messy

2- the group(s) usually begin(s) to get lazy, and the music quality starts lacking/being generic or the concept

3-they aren't coming out a lot on tv anymore so im bored cause i got no content (mostly sm & yg )

I don't know tbh, I guess its the same way some people love stanning only popular groups and then they leave them once they are not as huge.

I'm surprised by all the people who say they've never encountered such a person before.

There were quite a few hipster fans of Bangtan who began to fade out during HYYH era and jumped ship after Fire. Such people tend to stick to more indie-type bands rather than Kpop really.

I've never asked anyone why they leave once something begins to become popular but my guess is part of it has do with growing fandom size (the more the merrier is not always true) and there are subtle changes in how a group does things/behaves once they hit large-scale popularity, changes which they probably don't care for. And maybe some do connect it with their own sense of being unique or struggling as a person, in which case yeah, they'd be inclined to move on once something is no longer "different" or in an underdog state.

some people really like to stan nugus lol. i've seen comments/posts say they focus on other groups after their past fave became popular because they "need more attention" or something like that...i get it i guess? but i can't just shift focus like that unless my faves disappoint me a lot.  idk how other people manage to so easily (unless they were originally stanning just to support another nugu group laugh.png

It's up to them I guess. The good thing is, if they drop the group when the group becomes popular it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things since they'll have so many other fans already.

Actually it's better than people dropping their faves once their faves start selling less and aren't on top or trendy anymore
