How do I get back into reading?

Me too. rlytearpls.png I want to keep back into the reading things but whenever I start a new book I get a voice in the back of my head telling me I have more important things to do like studying and revision, so now I don't have any motivation to even crack open a page. I've literally ruined it for myself associating reading with bad thoughts. rlytearpls.png

For you, it depends on the cause of your loss of interest. Try to pin that down and make a solution that's suited around it. Like for me, I should finish off my work ASAP, find the time to relax and finish off a short book without being distracted by responsibilities.

Another way is to just force yourself to read and finish a book then keep doing that until it gets you back into the swing of things. (Just don't force yourself too hard or else you'll end up killing your interest even more.) If you're fandom oriented, maybe it'll help get you interested if you're involved with other people reading the same book and discussing the plot and characters.

Take a class that forces you to read novels... it helped me ohbi.png Or join a bookclub, in person or online

For me it was the opposite lol. English class killed the love of books in me because i was forced to read them, I fixed it by allowing myself to choose books that looked interesting and not based on literary merit.

It happened to me before too. I used to love reading but i kinda lost the passion and i barely had time anyway, until last May. I started reading again and i love it. I can't tell you how it happened but it just did lol

Try to find a book you'll like mayb it will help !!

Maybe you should try changing genres? If you were into YA stuff before, maybe try reading some mystery novels? I think it would help to explore new tastes. Maybe you're no longer interested in the same stuff you were before. People change.

Oh lol, I didn't take any english classes. I took a science fiction literature class and I loved it. The Martian Chronicles is now one of my most favorite books. English classes are too focused on dissecting rather than enjoying so I avoided it

Oh thats awesome, I wish I had access to a cool alternative like that, sadly I dont think the American public school system would ever consider the needs of its students like that lmao

you can't get back into it unless you find a book, open it and force yourself to go through the pages. Once you get a few pages in and hopefully feel intrigued, you won't want to stop. The cravings will come back. Speaking from experience here.

But well, don't chose a book you know you won't like for this. Go to goodreads and skim through their library and pick a book which sounds like something that might interest you and something you will likely not get bored of. Plenty of good, intriguing descriptions out there. It doesn't even matter if its some trashy cliché book. You simply need to ease yourself into the habit first and any kind of book can work for that.

I read everything as long as its fiction. I don't really like self help books or biographies that's all. Maybe I just need the right book to start it off again

Go to the nearest library, spend some time between the shelves and try to find something you like. What genre did you use to read before? Borrow your favourite book, reread it again, it will help you remember why did you like reading books in the first place.

do you spend a lot of time online? it might affect your concentration.

try reading when it's raining outside, it's relaxing and sets you to the right mood :)

same, i hated when i had to read something (and having a deadline...), even if the book would've been interesting to me otherwise. i often didn't even finish them.

Oohh... yeah, it's better to look at book clubs then. I was only able to take the sci fi lit one instead of regular english because college. On the plus side you have more time to read!
