The Current State Of JYP NATION

Oliver

Recommended Posts

I'm only talking about Music artists.. JYP Currently has 45 idols in total with 9 more coming soon

  • JY Park

JYP has a new SBS show "JYP's Party People" which has been doing very well.. and He will also play a big part in the new Boygroup survival show Stray Kids.. He has also been focusing on writing music for other artists like Suzy, Psy, Ayeon, Twice etc..

  • Wonder Girls

WGs disbanded earlier this year.. which is a huge reason why i dont post as much as I used to.   and only Yubin and Lim renewed with JYP.. Lim is busy going to University and Yubin is slowly getting back in the spotlight with photoshoots and pictorials.. I think the group is pretty much done for at this point and Who knows if we will ever get a Yubin solo.. but I seriously hope we do.. fun fact.. Yubin debuted in September 2007 making her the oldest celebrity still signed to the company after JYP..

[sunmi killed it with Gashina getting her first ever triple crown! So proud of Sunmi <3 and lyrical genius HA:TFELT is coming back soon.. The Queen is about to pop off

  • 2PM

2PM reached the dreaded enlistment stage of their careers.. Taecyeon was the first one to enlist last month.. tho they have all been pretty busy on their own with Dramas and Japan tours and albums.. Theyre all doing well individually and hopefully we will get to see them reunite for a comeback after everyone enlisted

  • 2AM

The group had some activities on Vapp but with Jo Kwon leaving JYP and them facing enlistment I dont htink we will see them together anytime soon .. I hope Jo Kwon does well! I wish him the best

  • Miss A

Miss A is also pretty much done for as a group.. also why  i dont post here as much as I used to  Fei and Suzy have both renewed their contracts with JYP while Min is still hanging in the balance of it all.. with no mention of what is going on.. Her contract expired in March and we still don't know if she's with the company or not.. Suzy had her solo debut this year and is currently starring in "While You Were Sleeping" and is getting alot of good attention.. Suzy alone is still one of the top earners in the industry being the 3rd highest contributor to JYP's profits after 2PM and GOT7 last year

  • Baek Ayeon

Ayeon was the breakout star of 2015 having a sleeper hit that managed to be one of the most downloaded songs of the year.. She made a comeback this summer with her album in 4 years .. Unfortunately JYP didn't take advantage of her popularity at the time so she didn't do as well as her previous releases.. but she still did well

  • 15&

15& have been on a hiatus as a duo for a while now and have both been promoting as soloists .. Jimin has been hinting at an upcoming album and was also in APOP Castle song writing workshop in Finland earlier this year.. I really hope her solo does well this time.. shes too talented to flop like this.. Meanwhile Yerin has been performing at multiple music festivals this summer and she confirmed shes working on her next album soon! Yerin has been doing moderately well on the charts and is one of the few artists in JYP to have ALL the songs on the album do well on the digital charts..

  • GOT7

GOT7 pretty much doubled their physical sales in the span of a year.. they are the first JYP artist since RAIN to be able to sell 300k physical albums .. Their growth is slow and steady.. The members have also been taking a much more active role with the music composition and writing.. their latest title track was made by JB!

JJ Project also finally made a comeback after 5 years!!! They had a successful comeback selling over 100k on Gaon.. Jackson also had his solo debut in China

  • Bernard Park

Bernard is still getting the short end of the stick with JYP.. he got a comeback this year and a whole image change.. giving him a new stage name and concept.. but he still didn't do well..

  • DAY6

For whatever reason.. Korea is still sleeping on talent.... DAY6 are still underperforming.. since the beginning of the year they have been releasing new music every month with no significant result.. their songs are still not doing too good digitally.. however they did sell 30k on gaon with their latest album.. thats like double the sales of their last mini album.. also something I think is important to note.. DAY6 write their own music and record their own instruments too so they do not incur alot of costs.. like for Choreography and Song writers etc.. I hope they finally do well because I am worried with JYP Nation growing so fast they might end up getting locked up in the dungeons..

  • Twice

Twice's success is undeniable at this point.. This year alone they have 3 albums selling over 200k copies each.. and they're also gearing up for a comeback soon and I can't fucking wait..

  • Stray Kids

JYP and Mnet are teaming up for a new survival show for their new Boygroup called "Stray Kids"  they are a 9 member group and they just released their first predebut single Hellevator. Honestly the members showed alot of potential with their rap, vocals, dancing and also their composition and writing talent with 3racha.. I love their energy and I can really see them Twice their way to the top!

I just love Chan in this so much ^ all 3 of them fucking killed it. the stage presence is crazyDKSG06MUQAAsk1G.jpg

  • Somi

Needless to say Somi is a star... coming out of 3 project groups she will finally be preparing for her own group soon.. Hopefully JYPNGG debuts next year...I think if JYP plans the next girl group right they could have another nation's girl group on their hands.. JYP has a a few other high profile trainees with Lily M who came in 4th in KPOP Star.. and Eunsoo who is an award winning rookie actress.. lastly there is Ryujin who will be participating in YG's upcoming survival show "MIX9" she's also getting alot of buzz after she appeared in BTS's highlight video..

  • Boy Story

JYP's first chinese boygroup.. They are getting a year long project from JYP with a comeback every 3 months until their official debut in 2018.. they had their first live performance recently and I think they have alot of potential

2017 has been a great year for JYP so far.. their physical sales are the highest they've been in 2 decades.. and the company's shares are at an alltime high having almost 100% improvement over their last financial year... that is HUGE..

however its not all good news for JYP.. 4 of the oldest artists with the company have left .. Sunmi, Yeeun, G Soul and Jo Kwon have left JYP after being with the company for 10 years MINIMUM.. as a 2nd gen KPOP fan it was pretty hard for me.. >_< anyway.. I wish them all the best <3

So yea.. I'm just writing this in a general sense so I didn't include everything going on.. theres alot going on especially with 2PM, Twice etc..

Lim will be a mc on a new show.

'A Shoulder Of A Giant' new humanity variety show on Channel A.

Edit:

Also, I dislike when people make it seem Day6 is a "flop". Yeah, they are "underrated" but they are doing quite well for themselves. Everyday6 has been a huge blessing for them and you can see they've been improving in all their monthly songs they released. Their first full album Sunrise sold 30k which is huge for Day6 since their two mini album's didn't sell close to that. Shows how their fandom has increased and with that all their concerts venues upgraded and selling out their concerts in less than 5 minutes.

And there Live & Meet have sold out as well. Remeber their American fan meet tour back in 2016. Even with the help of JYPe artist promoting it still didn't sell and they had to cancel cause of low sales. Well, the 2017 one they released all been sold out.

At the end of the day you can't put how you want Day6 to perform because they aren't an idol,  they are a non-idol band, they'll be promoted differently and their growth will be different. Like if you compare Day6 to the current new gen bands N.Flying, HONEYST, and The East Light. Day6 are doing far more better than them.

Anyways I'm sure their day will come soon.

Day6 has benn doing really well on overseas iTunes charts with many #1s. I think next year they'll have a worldwide tour.

2PM - Junho, Jun.K and Wooyoung will have a collab concert in Japan. Wooyoung is still promoting his solo.

GOT7 - JYP just wrote today on his IG that he's amazed with GOT7 that has been showing the growing of a rookie group, I'm also impressed. Three years into their debut and they've been presenting results in sales better each comeback. Despite that GOT7 members have proved they're valuable as a group and solo - members finding success in solo activities, it's not so easy to achieve, sometimes the group is big and strong, but the members solos are weak. JJ Project sold more albums than many boygroups out there, Thailand has a big eye on Bambam and Jackson is slaying in China.

Miss A songs have been indirectly promoted, and I wonder why. It's still up in the air if Min will sign with JYPent or not.

Yubin will have a solo soon. Rumor has it that the album will come on spring

15& Jimin just recovered from a surgery, and I believe she'll have her solo comeback soon. I believe she'll come back with a big change in her image.

15& - honestly at this point I don't think there are reasons for JYP to keep Jimin and Yerin as a duo, both have different colors, and they want to persue different kind of music. I think both have chances of succeeding as solo singers.

Something is going to be announced soon with Min. Her Instagram status upheaval is very new. I suspect withdrawal from JYP. JYPE has now lost 2AM fully, Wonder Girls has disbanded, MISS A is in every sense of the word inactive and likely disbanded, 2PM’ members are marching to enlistment (w Taecyeon already enlisted). JYPE’ oldest generation is in disrepair. Bernard is largely forsaken; it took him THREE years to have a solo comeback that was promoted barely above a whisper and his biggest gig is a radio host, 15& is inactive and likely disbanded, Yerin finds musical outlets through festivals/concerts (been 11mo since last comeback), Jimin [JYP’ best vocalist] is mis-managed and even tho she’s JYP best vocalist people largely see her as a ASC host, it’s been over a year since her last comeback, and her musical outlet is MOLA [co-ed unofficial unit bw friends], DAY6 surprisingly has been treated relatively well this year, Ayeon gets the IU treatment, and GOT7 and TWICE are currently the golden hens in JYP.

We can’t forget GSoul who barely had any activities and opportunities in JYPE for all the years he was under them and within MONTHS of leaving JYPE and entering AOMG/H1GHR MUSIC he has released multiple collaborations, singles, albums and gone on tour - it is even highly anticipated his involvement in Lee Hi’ next album. That vocal king was repressed.

So while I respect JYPE for bringing us Wonder Girls, 2AM, 2PM, GSoul, 15&, etc... I can’t help but feel the company just doesn’t know how to manage multiple groups well ... and doesn’t not know how to manage solos.

I think we will find out soon Min’ fate with JYPE. The next question of who will stay or leave JYPE will be in 2019 with Jimin, Ayeon, Yerin, and Bernard (2020).

The same thing happened with San E and I think this will happen with YeEun as well.

Leaving JYPE is the best thing for them and I am truly happy for their success.

Didn't Twice sell 389,614 with one of their albums?

JYP is doing pretty good. He struck gold with Twice and Got7. Got7 doing decent touring and Twice starting up their Japan career. They have the second highest selling JYP japan album and are slowly rising in popularity. GOT7 is doing better and better each comeback too. Both of them are carrying JYP pretty well imo.

I am so pleased GSoul looks so happy and is getting to release and produce music. He’s collaborating with some amazing rapper/s and vocalist/s.

And yes we saw it with SanE. We also see it w/ Seulong, Jinwoon, and Changmin... they are getting concerts/tours/acting gigs. They look happy. I hope the same for Jo Kwon. Sunmi has already shown she found a solid footing after leaving JYPE and now I hope the same for Yeeun. Jia has also done very well in China.

GSoul has an amazing voice and JYPE didn't do with it what should have been done.

JYPent 2nd generation has suffered the most bc JYP wanted to control all on his hands, but then things happened: financial problems started, JYP became the director of J.Tune, 2PM had some problems, WG had members leaving meanwhile 2AM and Miss A were left on the hands of people who didn't take a good care of their career.

2PM enlistment is sth expected to happen btw 2019-18. The members have found success in their solo activities and they've regained the Korean public respect, it assured them a way back after the army.

G.Soul has been releasing a lot of songs and all, but his position on charts have decreased a lot and I see less articles about him than when he was under JYPent. G.soul will enlist soon, he needs to hyper up his career fast. I hope the collabs help him somehow.

I love Bernard a lot, I follow him and listen to his radio show, but I have to say that as an artist... Korea doesn't like him. JYP once said, he can't promise an artist he'll make him/her popular, JYPent don't buy the artists popularity, that's not the company philosophy. All attempts of promoting Bernard ended up in loss for the company.

Jimin underwent a surgery and she was away from ASC for 3 months. Jimin and JYP is not getting into an agreement, she wants to be pop, JYP wants her to be the Korean version of Adele. I hope this comeback there was an agreement, and JYP let Jimin to go pop. Also you know Korea buys 1st the image of female solos ahead their songs (example IU, Ailee and tayeon), IMO she's amazing and fine, but it seems like Jimin already noticed it and lately she has been working on her image improvement.

GOT7 and Twice are the representative groups of JYPent, so ofc they'll be treated differently. You know that representative groups have a management different from others.

I also don't like when JYPent have many groups to manage, cause they can't do the things properly.

about artists leaving JYPent, well, I was stressed about this in the past, but now when I see JYP and JYP artists interacting with former JYPent artists I feel happy. The artists need to think in their long run career, if JYPent is not offering what they expected or they wish, so it's better to move companies. It's a healthy relationship. JYPent is not forcing them to stay or to leave. Many groups are debuting every year, 2nd generation has been left behind and they're not strong enough to go against the new generation, so just like 1st generation, they need to find a new direction for their careers. SM and YG artists are also doing the same.

JYP management for GOT7 and Twice has been super organized and efficient, basically all of the comically bad stuff happened prior to 2015 afaik. But we'll see it they can balance those with SK and Somi's group. JYP clearly doesn't scale easily and they are going to run into problems with the calendar if all 4 groups are successful. We will probably see more spaced comebacks and more touring for the senior groups, and more stepping on toes in general. It'll be a tricky transition.

As for solos... to be honest, I think that at this point if you're a solo and you aren't a Suzy/BoA/Psy tier star, it's clear the Big 3 are just a bad fit in general. YG hasn't done any better by the Lee Hi's of the world, let alone the K-Pop Star contestants who are on permanent dungeon status, and I don't think SM has added any new soloists in a long time other than from its idol groups.

Solos will never get the calendar they need to build their careers at a Big 3. They just don't make money like the groups do, they need to be allowed to experiment and even flop once in a while, etc.

Isn't 2PM contracts ends in January 2018?

Now I'm wondering are they gonna renewing it? I want them to stay together for a long time but it's gonna hard if some member choose to leave. Although if JYPE smart, they will try their hardest to make 2PM stay just like Suzy, because they're still JYPE biggest money maker.

Just look at how even with their group hiatus because member start enlisting one bye one, their solo work is no joke.

Taecyeon has solo debut and concert in Japan, also a movie and drama this year

Junho has 2 dramas, one is a hit and another airing later this year, also finally releasing Korean album and just like every summer for the past few years releasing Japan album and touring (he's one of the most successful Korean solo in Japan IMO)

Wooyoung has 2 Japanesse release along with 2 tours this year alone (though I'm still waiting his Korean comebacks) and a surprise Korean relase (digital)

Nichkhun been busy filming in China, making his Korean drama debut, and about to have his first solo fan meeting across Asia, not to mention he still have a lot of endorsment

Chansung has drama and musical both in Japan and Korea

Lastly Jun.K, I think he's currently making a music while waiting for his enlisment and about to have a concert with Junho and Wooyoung in Japan this November

Look at how 4 out of 6 2PM member is doing solo (I'm still waiting for all of them to make solo music)

JYPE would be stupid to let them go, but if and I mean IF they're leaving, it's totally understandable because even though they're JYPE biggest money maker, they didn't get the treatment that they deserve

I’ll be honest. I stopped reading when you said Jimin wanted pop. That’s not true. She has said multiple times she enjoys hip hop and r&b but has said JYP/E disagrees. She has also said she has been blocked on collaborating.

I still wanna fight JYPE for not letting Jimin pick her title song on 19to20. [Her choice] Young20 (track #2) made the most sense and was upbeat, fun, and impressed with vocals. Though Walkin’ was my favorite. JYPE picked the safest song for the title.

I wonder if 2PM will leave or stay in JYPent.

JYP and 2PM have a good relationship, and the company has been giving them  all they wanted. They have all the freedom for schedules, solo activities, group activities and even concert making-off that any boygroup from 2nd generation would wish for, but I think 2PM would like to have their own company just like Highlight.

JYPent will be a full-house by the time 2PM came back from army, so maybe they'll open their own label or maybe JYPent will open for them a sub-label like SuJu and SM.
