How do you feel about other black kpop fans who stan idols like Taeyeon, Wendy, Rap Monster, particular Exo members, etc.

Mature discussion please. Ik it's a touchy subject + the fact that my rep is negative but I want no mess. Thank you.

To each his own, really lol. Some idols that I don't care for (for racially-charged incidents) could be stanned by someone for reasons I don't know, and besides, people could feel the same about me for some of the idols I stan.

If I was still fresh into K-Pop, I'd be a lot more upset, but once you're in K-Pop for long enough, you end up maturing to the point where you let ppl stan who they want, for whatever reasons out of your control.

People don't have to apply their own identity politics to "stanning" if they don't want to. And if they want to, they can do that too I guess.

But whether it's racism, another social issue, a completely unrelated thing like a bad performance or anything- I would hope when the time comes, people are able to set their "feelings" aside and critique/be self aware of their biases when necessary. It's kind of toxic when people can't do that.

But yeah, overall I don't care. Stan who you want lol

i am black and what do you want me to feel? Unlike you, I recognize the difference between colorism and racism, colorism which is something that has been rampant even among black people and not just among Koreans, so it's not anything new. Is is good? No. But the idols you mention aren't the only ones guilty of it. Almost all Idols have made a colorist remark or two, but that's based on something ingrained in their culture. The important thing is that them (at least my EXO who I stan) have shown some improvement on the subject, but it's hard to escape when pale skin is still considered the standard of beauty in Korea. I only hope that they continue to evolve on the subject.

On the matters of culture appropriation, that's subjective whether or not you want to take offense I guess, and for the most part, I see it as appreciation unless specifically used to mock, insult, taint, or discredit.

All in all, EXO, for one, has not done anything at all racist or implied that they hate black people. So while I have been slightly hurt by some of their colorist comments that they made in the past I know better than to base their whole character off of them.
