whats the difference between lead vocal and main vocal?

main vocal gets the most difficult parts and is often responsible for a lot of behind the scenes work - the back vocals, chorus backing, harmonies, adlibs etc are usually the work of main vocals. Usually gets the most lines but it's not a rule and it doesn't define main vocal imo, there are songs where lead has a very similar amount of "single lines" but it doesn't make them a main.

I.... am shocked.

do you know the difference?

Usually (emphasis on usually) the main vocalist is the best singer, and the lead vocalist is the second best. If there are several, they are usually close in skill or have completely different ranges but are just as good as each other.

its easier to comprehend if i just give an example

main is taeyeon

lead is tiffany seohyun

sub vocal is yoona yuri sooyoung sunny hyoyeon

Sunny, Yuri & Sooyoung = Vocal

Hyo, Yoona = Sub vocals

depends on the group but usually main sings more and tackles the more challenging parts of the song

Lead usually lead the song, Main get more lines (usually), do ad-libs, harmonies, background vocals, etc.~

Lead gets more lines

Main does the high notes/ad libs.

Kyungsoo Chen Baek - main vocalists

Suho Xiumin - Lead vocalists (maybe some others are lead too im not sure)

Super Junior

Kyuhyun Yesung RW - main vocalists

sungmin, donghae (kangin before) and maybe some others - lead vocalists

Sunny, Yuri & Sooyoung = Vocal

Hyo, Yoona = Sub vocals

Lead gets more lines

Main does the high notes/ad libs.

sunny is a lead vocalist. Yuri and Sooyoung are not, though they get more lines than yoonhyo

in general main vocal=usually the best vocal in the group(not always tho.), does high notes, can have the most lines in the song but not always..but it's not as rare as others say...

lead vocal= usually the second best vocal(that is not always the case...there are times that the lead is technically better than the main but since the main vocal has a "stronger voice" they don't become the main vocal..and also there are times that the lead vocal is even weaker than some normal vocals.) , usually has the most lines, can handle some difficult notes(However that doesn't mean that they do it perfectly.)

ex of a man vocal being better than the lead which is the most common case:

Jungkook of BTS is a better vocal compared to Jimin.

Taeyeon of SNSD is better compared toTiffany or Seohyun.

Jihyo of Twice is better than Nayeon or Junghyeon.

Jonghyun of Shinee is better than Onew.

ex when the lead vocal is better than the main which is not that common since the main vocal is supposed to be better than the lead:

Wheein of Mamamoo is better than Solar.

Narsha of brown eyed girls is better than Jea.

Desung of Big Bang is  better than Taeyang.

Minzy(Rip 2ne1) of 2NE1 is better than Bom.

ex when the sub vocal is better than the main or lead vocal or even both:

Amber(sub) of f(x) is a tiny bit better than Krystal(lead)..well just recently...uh probably.

4minutes Sohyun(sub) is better than Jiyoon (lead)
