On June 1st, 2011, Girls' Generation 1st Japan Album was released in three different editions. The girls went on their 1st Japan Arena tour to promote this album, and due to an impressive demand up to 300,000 applicants applying for tickets, the divine goddesses graced the fans with additional stops for the tour.

And who can forget the trippy as hell teaser video SM released for the divine 1st album?

List of achievements:

- 'Million' -certified by Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ), making the group the 2nd Korean artist to earn this achievement in Japan since Korean label mate BoA's Best of Soul in 2005.

- Deluxe edition sold very well and rose quickly to No. 1 on Amazon Japan pre-order charts.

- Limited Edition was ranked 5th.

No contest, the 1st Japanese Album was the strongest and most cohesive Girls' Generation album to date. I loved Bad Girl almost immediately from the moment I heard it, but every other Japanese release had to grow on me. I think that process led to a deeper appreciation, especially for The Great Escape, and now I understand how the 1st Japanese Album blows the girls' Korean releases (especially as of late) out of the water.

Solid album. Quite a bit overrated in retrospect as there are way too many flaws that people like to pretend don't exist but the album was seriously needed at that time of SNSD's career. Many of the songs are quite timeless as well.

Bad Girl, TGE, and Beautiful Stranger are still awesome to listen to when I can.

It truly is a great album. I love the great escape the most and I loved the girls' energy and passion.

It's sad that they're flopping now in Japan of all times. The faster you rise, the faster you fall is a mantra that's relevant to their situation. I just wish SM was more systematic and gradual with SNSD's Japanese advancement. They made a huge splash to make an impression and then just half-asses every release after that album.
