A fanfic got stolen and published, what are the legal action options?

I suppose this is the perfect place for it

A cry for help to anyone who knows how to take legal action...

ahjareyn:

Today it has been discovered that Naruto fanfiction author, Kage Kitsune, has had several stories of hers stolen, "rewritten", and published into book form that are now being sold on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and pretty much a number of other generic book sites as well.

Now, normally (or just back in the day?), people would leave a flood of reviews and emails to the one accused of plagiarizing until they took the story down. But in this case, it is a published book, complete with ISBN that is now being mass distributed. If you type in the other authors’ names into google, more often than not, it will just take you to more places these books are being sold.
Does anyone know the best way to take legal action against this? Or at least find a way to ensure ALL stolen copies of the books are pulled from existence?

If you have any ideas, please help.

None. Its hard to prove that its been rewritten using an electronic sources. If its been published then there's nothing we can do about it. The hard copy itself will be the original copy. You can do something about it if its already a hard copy and been proved that its rewritten.

Hello everyone

I am friends with the girl who did this, and she is already deleting everything she can from her account. She only did this because she was going on a summer trip to Japan and would not have access to the internet, and wanted some fanfiction written by her favorite author to take along with her. She no longer has a tumblr, but she wants to say that she’s sincerely sorry about the whole ordeal.

She has received NO money from this at all. She didn’t even buy it herself, and has reported that no one has bought the book from her. It was a bad move on her part to plagiarize KageKitsuneXXX’s work, but she is deleting everything now. If anyone wants to contact her, I can give her the message but once again, she is very sorry that she had to put KageKitsune through this.

... really now, you print out a story and it accidentally gets self published?

People are publishing Naruto fanfiction? And selling it for $17-$20?

Kage is a really good author, and gets plagiarised all the time. But this, daring to actually publish is a new.

So she went through the trouble of having a fanfic that's not ever hers published, just to have something to read for a vacation that only lasts several weeks? People are so stupid lmao. Everything about that explanation is suspicious. The person who's friends with the girl also sounds suspicious as hell.

As far as excuses go this is one of the more comical ones. That is what you are going to say? The published books, yes books the shits stole a bunch of stuff, have multiple authors listed and have been on sale for months. Used copies exist. These fuckers.

And, they freaking thank Kage in the description of the book.

If her works are as good as people say it is (and continuously plagiarized) she should invest in copyrighting them.  Something that valuable should be tbqh.

It's sad but in this day and age it's hard to prove it's your own work on the web without copyright (or millions to hire lawyers to prove so).
