Theqoo: EXO Baekhyun’s ment at ‘Party People’ becomes a little comfort to idol fans

Baekhyun: There are lots of people holding prejudice if you say you’re an idol. In fact, it’s also the same for fans. Are you a fan of an artist or an idol? I found out that there are still many people distinguishing (fans) like that. People who like idols are commonly called as…if saying it in a bad way, it’s ‘bbasooni’ (extreme crazy fans)? Honestly, please don’t call fans like that, and it became our great worry of how we can tear down this wall.

1. His words are so beautiful ㅜㅜㅜㅜ I feel so grateful whenever I see his sincere heart which is considerate of the fans ㅜㅜㅜㅜ I’m so happy because I feel loved

2. That’s right. I don’t know why they have distinguish between fans of artists and fans of idols.

3. Yes. It’s this one. I don’t know why people disregard me and see me as an petty person when I say I’m a fan of an idol.

4. I’ll cry if my bias tells me like that. He’s not even my idol, but his words did comfort me. I have been laughed at a lot of times and called as a ‘bbasooni’

5. I really hate it when I say I’m a fan of an idol and they comment on my age, call me ‘bbasooni’ and give me a pitiful look. Liking drama, Indie, baseball, or being a fan of an actor… reading books, watching musicals… all are the same…all are hobbies, aren’t they?

6. I told my best friend that I went to an idol’s concert and I was called ‘bbasooni’. Since then, I don’t say anything about my bias to anyone. Really, I hope they stop with the ‘bbasooni’ accusing…

7. I love you Byun Baekhyun. I’m your fan for the rest of my life

8. I like celebrities who adore and treat their fans well. Now I know why he is popular. I hope he will be more successful

9. I’m grateful for his words. I hope Baekhyun will be more successful in the future

10. Baekhyun-ah, I’m always your fan

11. EXO treats their fans really well

12. I’m idol’s fan so I’m really touched. Especially I’m an adult and when I say I like idols, there have never been any nice reaction for me. Anyway, Baekhyun’s nice, he’s handsome and his mindset is also good

My boy is always so wise rlytearpls.png I love listening to him speak, his words are always so comforting.

I really hope this prejudice stops too. The way they view idols in korea is really sad, and fans of idols are no different to fans of other things, such as "artists" and sports etc

i agree overall, but idol fans can only blame themselves for their bad image

Yes and no, it's true that idol fans sometimes don't help with the reputation but we all know that even if in an alternative universe idol fans behaved nicely people would still look down upon them.. the bad stigma doesn't come from the behavior (only) it comes from simply liking idols.. which is what's so sad. You see by the comments that a lot of fans are looked down upon when they admit they like this or that idol even though they more than likely never did anything wrong..

if you're a teenager i don't think anyone looks down on you for liking idols really

it's the male/female fans in their 20s, 30s, 40s that people look down on for no good reason

fans herd mentality, their stalking behavior, or trash talking anyone that isn't their fave gives people enough reason to not like many idol fans though. even baekhyun himself should despise some of his fans for what they made him go through in 2014, of course he won't admit that in public

I think you raise an interesting point by comparing to fans of sports. I can only talk for my own country but fans of certain sports act horrendous but they have barely any stigma whereas fangirls are looked down upon massively

That's not true at all.. teenager's are specially attacked for "wasting their youth". No matter what age or gender if you like idols, you are looked down upon, fans complain about this all the time.

And well like I said the crazy behavior really doesn't help the case but like I mentioned it goes beyond that, the act of simply liking an idol is enough for people to give you the eye and that shouldn't be the case. This doesn't follow fans only but the idols themselves too, we know people look down on them for you know.. just being idols... and the majority of them never did anything wrong did they? It's just because they have the label "idol" attached to them.

And even if the crazy behavior is indeed sickening I don't think that's an excuse to treat all idol fans in a bad way, I shouldn't have to face mocking from other people for liking an idol  just because other fans act crazily sometimes, it shouldn't be hard to separate things and understand that not everyone is in that category.

if you're a teenager and like idols, no one is really bothered by it, it's rather surprising if you don't like idols (i'm not talking about idiots on pann that hate on 14 year olds) but if you're in your 30s and your hobby is your idol, well people will think it's weird.

the majority is doing nothing wrong, i agree, but it only takes a loud minority to ruin it for everyone (that's not just the case in kpop)

Idol fans are the creators of their bad reputation.

And the prejudice against idols will not end as long as they are first in the charts with ugly songs heavily supported by obsessive fans and will debut as bad actors or MCs due to their popularity with teen girls.

In my country the same thing happens because of the people of talent shows and youtubers, good music is dying and the good actors are disappearing because teenagers are obsessed with mediocrity. At least once young people loved the novelty and originality, they now support real crap just because the usual pretty faces are involved.

I'm really angry!

I mean yes people find people in their 20's and 30's liking idols more surprising than teenagers and they probably have a harder time but teenagers are still looked down upon even if it's supposed to be "natural" liking idols :/

Yeah and that's what's sad.. that a loud minority has to ruin it for everyone like that..

Well said, and even more for international fans, I think. People do say that liking kpop idols is considered childish, like my parents used to say that I'll grow out of it, and there are people who say that they grew out of kpop and such, it's still music. The only thing really distinctly different about liking an idol is that you get more than music from supporting them, that's why fandoms get so "crazy", all that power, all those merch haha but in all seriousness fans are the backbones of any entertainer, some will be tame, some are wild, normal social condition

What about sports fans, who also stalk their faves, are getting into fight with opposite team supporters, staying up all night to stream the match, paying money to see faves and paying for their merch? What's the difference honestly? :imstupid: Yet, no one will bat an eye, if I say, that I'm a football fan and love Messi or something, but if I say, that I love idol, suddenly I'm a crazy fan??? Why? :imstupid:

His words are seriously considerate. I know idol fans may have a bad reputation because of the loud ones but there are still many genuine and kind ones who take the time to even contribute and organize various donating events for the peole in need. There are indeed some loud and annoying fans but that doesn't automatically mean all idol fans are bad

I am not tho?

Do you even know, how dangerous sports fans can get? Esp. big and famous football team supporters? They can riot and damage city even, when they are angry. Yet nobody generalizes football fans as crazy. And reputation of football players also stays intact... But fans and idols aren't that "lucky"...

And Bigbang is considered "artist" in Korea...
