I did not really pay attention to YG's new "survival" program but it seems that it is gaining a lot of attention since there are idols who has fandom that are in the show...

But which show do you think will have public's interest? Of course, KBS has this big advantage since they are a public station and JTBC is a cable company.. but even Mnet, a cable company can make an impact like IOI had..

I know this is a vague question but...

well at least they're not airing at the same exact time and day right? who says we can't watch both... The Unit seems more interesting because most of the idols on the show will be "experienced" idols from groups who didn't get the spotlight for a long time but actually deserve it (unlike picking random trainees again), whereas Mix9 is like PD 101, but the "YG" label makes it appealing (and Taeyang's gonna be a mentor so we'll see a lot of him & probably some GD apearances too...)

Are both shows going to air concurrently? Mixnine is looking good, the lineup looks impressive, big 3 actually sent trainees, they have an experienced producer, YG and leading songwriters like Kim do hoon. Jtbc has been on the rise and they even got noh hongchul as emcee. My bet is mixnine is gonna outshine the unit.

Firstly the flop idols in The Unit is because they don't have a stable fandom like Bigstar, Topp Dogg, so I am not sure if they can suddenly get a fandom, i mean they already try to get a fandom for 5 years+.

Maybe the Final group in The Unit will definitely get alot of attention since it is from KBS, and their 7 months activity will do well with alot of attention, but I am not sure about them able to create fandom, I mean they failed for a long time, i mean out of every 200 fans watching, how many will actually say "ok i will join their fandom now", i mean the fans know Bigstar and Topp Dogg has been in hiatus from creating any music for years, so the fans do not really think the idols as "active idols" which will be hard when trying to convince fans to enter a fandom.

While MixNine have alot of trainees, kids that had never debut before, so the possibility of creating a fandom is bigger. Since creating a fandom is all about "hope", like we do not know how their future will be because they never started yet, but if they did start their future now, will they be an active idol? (whether they had fame or not does not matter, but will they actively pursue their career as idols?)

And yeah, viewers will watch KBS more than jtbc.

I wasn't really planning on watching either show until closer to the end of their seasons but MIXNINE has Taeyang and CL (as mentors? judges?) and LOONA, Vromance, Park Woodam, and Woo Jinyoung so they've definitely gotten my attention from the beginning.

While saying this, you do know what happened to NU'EST before and after they joined Produce 101 season 2 right?

Do you really think so?

Nu'est is actually active non-stop making music, it's just that when they comeback in S.Korea every year nobody cares, and then they were active in Japan, non stop making music. I'm pretty much sure Bigstar and Topp Dogg has not make music for a long time. So some of these flop idols situations are completely different from Nu'est. Fans feel the burning passion for Nu'est because they work non stop but did not get any fame.

1. The sole contestants are not only Bigstar and Topp Dogg. Some of the other contestants are probably also doing it as well (non stop making music)

2. 'Fans feel the burning passion for Nu'est because they work non stop but did not get any fame.' This is very subjective to be judged. Also there are other reasons why many idols stop releasing music other than 'not passionate enough'. It could be because they didn't get much support from their company/their company is poor. NU'EST maybe lucky enough to have Pledis to be able to support them with 'non-stop making music', but not every flop idols are as lucky as them.

That situation about 'nobody cares whenever they make a comeback' is a similar situation with other flop idols out there either way.

I honestly have no care in the world for Mix Nine, nobody who is in it has really peaked my interest nor does the premise of the show.

The Unit has more artists that deserve recognition, I cannot stress this enough. I know that perhaps my opinion is a bit biased since Brave Girls and Big Star are my favorite groups, but I always root for the underrated groups/idols because people always sleep on such good quality and need to realize what they are missing out on these idols.

Honestly, as much as I love BIGBANG, BLACKPINK, WINNER, iKON, etc. YG as a company just irks me, and that in itself is another argument that I don't wish to dwell on right now, lol.

I'm always rooting for YG content, but I think The Unit will do better.  It already has more buzz, it's hosted by a network instead of an entertainment company, it's full of nothing but people who have already had a debut so there is a built in audience and support, plus there is no competition with other groups whose fans will be concerned about the potential competition from the winners.

Mix Nine will be a case of been there done that.  There is nothing fresh about it.  There is no built in audience for the most part since most of the contestants are unknown.  YG is known for taking to long to act when it comes to artists on his label so I have no confidence that the winners will have proper promotion. His show honestly seems like a conflict of interest since it's more than likely going to take attention away from some of the artists currently on his roster.

Unless The Unit totally screws things up in a major way, I think they'll win in ratings and buzz.  Also, isn't JYP coming out with a show as well?
