Try to watch a lot of animation too or go to exhibits, read books, expose yourself. Like any skill it takes time but as long as you are passionate you'll definitely get there. I have to do this for one of my classes, it's only been about a month but I've already improved so much. Even if you just do simple sketches, some practice is better than none at all. Anyway most of it comes down to practice and I guess you could sign up for some classes if you're interested in a more formal preparation and developing a better technique but even so you just need to keep drawing and being constant. If you get the mentality that your work isn't as good as 'insert person' It can cause problems to your development. This advice really helped me. Then my brother nonchalantly draw a character and it looks way better than me who has been practicing a lot... I just accept I don't have talent and suck at drawing and kinda give up. I think you need to have a good direction and follow the right steps when you started learning, I never learn anatomy and don't even know it is very important in drawing.
