"Witch's Court" Jung Ryeo-won and Yoon Hyun-min's delightful layout

On the latest episode of the KBS 2TV drama "Witch's Court", Ma Yi-deum (Jung Ryeo-won) slowly opened up to Yeo Jin-wook (Yoon Hyun-min).

Yeo Jin-wook and Ma Yi-deum dug up the dirt on Kingdom to target Jo Gap-soo (Jun Kwang-ryul). However, Jo Gap-soo had the police on his side. Yeo Jin-wook had conducted a search and seizure was punished with a 3-month suspension. "I am going to make the person who did that to your mother pay", he promised to which Ma Yi-deum repied, "I am not going to stop you, although you wouldn't listen". Yeo Jin-wook told her to admit that they were now on the same side.

Ma Yi-deum refused to share information about Jo Gap-soo's wife who was sick in the hospital. Yeo Jin-wook stopped his car and said, "If you don't share information then I won't share this car". In the end, Ma Yi-deum told him what she knew. Baek Min-ho (Kim Kwon) gave them some of Baek Sang-ho's (Heo Sung-tae) notes and asked them to reveal the truth about his brother's death first.

In the end, Ma Yi-deum and Yeo Jin-wook had to dig for the truth by stealing records of Jo Gap-soo's record of investigation from Min Ji-sook's (Kim Yeo-jin's) office. They noticed that the evidence from the location of death, a pen, was not the same and met up with Detective Choi, a friend from Baek Sang-ho's cop days. The detective gave them the pen with Jo Gap-soo's prints on it and they finally had evidence of Jo Gap-soo's crime. At the end of the episode, Jo Gap-soo found out that Gwak Yeong-sil (Lee Il-hwa) was alive and threatened her.

  • Witch’s Court: Episode 13WC13_00373.jpg

Our team really starts to work together today, and help comes from unlikely sources throughout. It brings me joy to see Yi-deum sharing her plans and devious mind with other people, and the good guys finally nab a win against the bad guys. It was a long time coming, but at least it’s here, and hopefully it will be the first step to ultimate success.

EPISODE 13 RECAP

WC13_00003.jpg WC13_00005.jpg

On a small island, a local festival impedes Jo Gap-soo’s journey to a secret meeting with the prime minister. A woman is jostled in the crowd and to his disgust, her bags fall to the floor in front of his car. Jo Gao-soo’s driver gets out to help the woman… and it’s Mom. Jo Gap-soo and Mom’s eyes meet, and they pause, but neither seems to recognize the other.

Jo Gap-soo’s illicit meeting takes place on a golf course (naturally) with the prime minister and the chancellor of a university, where Jo fawns over the prime minister’s skill. Jo exclaims that it’s wonderful the prime minister’s grandson will attend the same university they all went to, although the prime minister genially says that his attendance still depends on Mayor Jo’s luck.

WC13_00020.jpg

The trio laugh conspiratorially… completely unaware that their meeting is being photographed. In an interesting twist, it looks like the mystery snapper all this time has been Reporter Han.

At Hyungjae Hotel, Yun-hee dresses up to go undercover again, wearing a recording device cleverly disguised as an ornate earring. Before she can enter the inner sanctum, however, the security guards pause as the detector beeps as it passes her head. Nervous, Yun-hee manages to stealthily remove the earring and throw it away, and the guard waves her through. In a heart-stopping moment, he does notice Yun-hee’s earring missing, but merely advises her to change them. Inside, Yun-hee keeps her ears sharp and smile bland as she serves Jo Gap-soo and the prime minister. The chancellor thanks Jo Gap-soo for all his help in bolstering the image of his university, and laughs that having Ahn Tae-gyu and Chief Secretary Min’s daughter has allowed him to pay for refurbishments at the university.

Jo Gap-soo demurs that he is only doing what he can to make South Korea as great as it should be, but looks pleased as the chancellor promises to build a new campus in Yeongpa. The prime minister warns that this will be difficult to achieve, but Jo Gap-soo respectfully says this is why they are asking him to help.

WC13_00046.jpg

Jo adds that if the prime minister would allow Hyungjae group to build their White Town near the school, the university could service even his “grandchild’s grandchild.†The prime minister crows that he likes the sound of that.

Eager to cover her tracks, Yun-hee sneaks out while the guards take a break to hunt for her discarded earring. Although she finds it, the moment turns tense as Yun-hee hears the security guard approaching, and she ducks under the table to hide. Luckily, a phone call diverts his attention, and Yun-hee manages to get away unseen.

Lawyer Min and Yi-deum discuss their strategy for catching Jo Gap-soo, and Min declares that his first big break holds the key to his downfall. In 2004, when Jo was commissioner general, Sang-ho used bribes he received from hostess bars to create a slush fund for political lobbying. Jo Gap-soo was able to leverage this into his political career.

WC13_00055.jpg WC13_00060.jpg

Yun-hee makes her entrance, and brings Yi-deum up to speed on why she is helping—the woman originally involved in the 2004 case was her sister. Furthermore, Yun-hee explains that she has already been to Kingdom—located at Hyungjae Hotel, Level K.

Yi-deum mulls over the name, before she realizes that was where Soo-ah was taken before she was murdered. Lawyer Min is regretful that she didn’t know until recently, because the Soo-ah case would have been decided differently. Yi-deum scorns, “Lobbying, sexual favors and concealing a murder? All of Jo’s weaknesses are there.â€

Yun-hee says that she witnessed one of those crimes last night, and presents the earring to add that the whole conversation was recorded on there. The three conspirators share a loaded stare at the revelation.

COMMENTS

D’awww. This was a nice episode for Yi-deum and Jin-wook, as their nascent relationship looks set to get back on track again. I have missed their interactions, which were the highlight for most of the drama, and my interest in the show immediately spikes any time these two are together. They also make a surprisingly effective team, probably because they cover each other’s weaknesses. They both have had an influence though, and I’d like to think that Jin-wook working with Reporter Han was inspired at least partially by Yi-deum’s love of a good underhand tactic. This definitely isn’t the strait-laced, po-faced Jin-wook from the beginning of the drama, and I’m liking it.

That said, I do have misgivings about how we are going to resolve their problems with the finale coming next week. These two have some talkin’ to be doin’ and not much time to do it in. Have both Yi-deum and Jin-wook forgotten that she has sworn vengeance against his mom? Should they not be connecting on an emotional level after the fallout of Soo-ah’s death and Sang-ho’s suicide? And I would love it if they could actually admit that they like each other (though it’s blindingly clear that they do, so I’m not too unhappy about that). I just wish we had more depth to the relationship at this point, given it was what kept me invested for so long. I love the cute, I love the affection, I just want mooooore.

Jin-wook did succumb to the age-old trope of yelling because you care too much, but in this case, I thought his anger was fully warranted. Yi-deum’s recklessness came out today, and unlike other times, there was no smart move to get her out of it. I find Yi-deum’s recklessness an interesting trait, especially for a female character, but she is usually quick-witted enough to have a back-up or turn the situation to her advantage. Today, without Jin-wook having his big damn hero moment, Yi-deum would have been in a whole world of trouble. And she would have brought Yun-hee down with her. Yi-deum clearly felt regret over her actions and Yun-hee did choose to put herself in danger, but Yi-deum also abandoned Yun-hee for the video (and Jin-wook) a tad too quickly for my liking. Unlike the situation with Soo-ah’s missed phone call, this would squarely have been Yi-deum’s fault, and it felt like something we should have explored a bit more.

WC13_00336.jpg

Can I say though, I was genuinely surprised that it turns out Jin-wook and Reporter Han have been working together, and she was the one who has been taking the photographs. It makes complete sense, and I’m impressed that the show was finally able to pull out a twist that I didn’t see coming—and more importantly, one that was actually earned for once. I thought Reporter Han was a great character the first time I saw her, and I’m glad that she pops up here again. It was uplifting to see her not just as a victim but a fully realized person who continued to pursue their work, and she even looks set to be a major part of Jo Gap-soo’s downfall (which I wouldn’t mind if it came tomorrow. More Mom and kisses for next week!).

Jo Gap-soo continues to stay on top through a series of coincidences and an unbelievably large network of people working for him. For a pair of low-level stooges though, I quite liked Young-woon and Dong-shik as characters. They had a nice little friendship going, which made them seem a lot more real than most of the other big baddies on the show. I was even a bit sad when Dong-shik turned on Yun-hee so quickly.

Finally, I loved seeing Yi-deum bond with Lawyer Min and Yun-hee. I didn’t even know that I wanted to see those three women chill out with takeout, but when it happened, I was absolutely delighted. It was more like watching three girlfriends, especially when Yi-deum started to boast about how good she is at seducing men. Lawyer Min still doesn’t seem like a particularly effective mentor, but she has got game with the side-eye. More of that too, please.

  • Witch’s Court: Episode 14witchscourt14-00016a.jpg

We’re amping up for the final stretch as our heroes close in on Jo Gap-soo. He’s a slippery devil, however, and they find a find that there are still more hurdles to jump before they catch him. Meanwhile, Jo makes a few discoveries of his own that could prove dire.

EPISODE 14 RECAP

WC14-00011.jpg

In court, Jin-wook reveals that Tae-gyu’s team had fabricated the brass knuckle evidence incriminating Min-ho. Lawyer Heo counters that the lab technician who analyzed the glove incriminating Tae-gyu has recently resigned for embezzlement. Ruling that both the glove and knuckles now lack credibility, the judge dismisses them from evidence and asks Jin-wook if he has anything else to offer in Min-ho’s defense.

Smiling from his vantage point above, Chairman Ahn smugly tells his secretary that they might as well leave since the trial is practically over. Just as he turns to go, however, the courtroom doors swing open and Yi-deum steps inside. Introducing herself as Min-ho’s new lawyer, she points at Tae-gyu and accuses him of Soo-ah’s murder.

WC14-00023.jpg

In a warning tone, the judge asks if she has proof and Yi-deum holds up a flash drive containing the damning video of Tae-gyu brutally beating Soo-ah the night she died. As the video plays, Soo-ah’s grandmother sobs and even Lawyer Heo has to look away in horror.

Jin-wook states that Tae-gyu lied and even manipulated evidence in order to pin the blame on Min-ho. He asserts that Tae-gyu lacks remorse and should therefore serve a life sentence in prison. Overturning the previous verdict, the judge agrees to give Tae-gyu life in prison while Min-ho’s sentence is reduced to five years’ probation.

WC14-00027.jpg WC14-00030.jpg

A protesting Tae-gyu is removed, as Yi-deum and Jin-wook share a cute thumbs-up.

Reeling from shock, Chairman Ahn stumbles out of the courtroom and calls Jo Gap-soo. Jo’s pleasantries are cut off when his brother-in-law accuses him of knowing about the video. Initially confused, Jo’s expression hardens as Chairman Ahn cries that the video condemned Tae-gyu to life in prison.

Jumping back two days, we return to Lawyer Min, Yi-deum, and Jin-wook as they watch the footage of Soo-ah’s beating. They realize that Jo Gap-soo will try to bury the existence of Kingdom when the video is revealed. Knowing that they need to expose it quickly, Lawyer Min worries about Jo’s influence in the media industry, but Jin-wook says he knows just the person to help them.

WC14-00040.jpg

Which is where Reporter Han enters the picture. She explains that after leaving her previous job, she’d started reporting via the internet and vows to expose Jo and Kingdom.

Presently, Jo Gap-soo’s secretary informs him of a disconcerting news report circulating online. It turns out to be Reporter Han’s exposé of Tae-gyu’s trial and she expands on both Kingdom and the sketchy dealings played out with admissions at Hanguk University. Tae-gyu, an alum, had attended a grand total of two weeks and yet his report card reflected straight As, even earning him a scholarship. What’s more, he’s not the only one.

Jo trembles with rage as Reporter Han demands a special investigation of Kingdom, then he throws a potted plant like a petulant child. In his cell, Tae-gyu hears the guards calling for Min-ho and leaps to his feet. He demands to know why Min-ho is being released (um, weren’t you at the trial?). The scene mirrors Tae-gyu’s release after the last trial and Min-ho can’t help but smirk at the irony. Dressed in his own clothes, Min-ho retrieves his personal effects. The last item gives him pause, and tears well up in his eyes as he stares down at the deed for the house Sang-ho had bought for him.

WC14-00066.jpg WC14-00068.jpg

Stepping outside the facility’s walls, Min-ho takes his first breath of freedom in months. Yi-deum is there to greet him, but she cuts off his thanks to ask for the “debt†his brother owes her. At Min-ho’s confusion, Yi-deum whips out her phone to show him Sang-ho’s final text. In it, he’d said that should anything happen to him, he’d left the evidence with Min-ho.

Yi-deum explains that Sang-ho had committed a severe crime against her, and had died trying to make amends. Min-ho admits that he doesn’t know anything, so Yi-deum tells him to call her if he figures anything out.

COMMENTS

Finally!!! Holy cheese on toast, I feared we’d never gain solid footing against Jo Gap-soo. Jo has managed to elude our heroes at every turn and not even because he’s particularly crafty, or covers his tracks well… I mean, he still has Sang-ho’s journal, for Pete’s sake! That was chock-full of evidence against him and he keeps it? For what, sentimental reasons? But no, Jo manages to wriggle away solely thanks to his never-ending web of connections and lucky happenstance. He’s a villain who never truly squirms because he always has an easy out and that chaps my buns.

Not to mention, the convenient way that he suddenly realized that the woman he’d ran into was Mom. He hadn’t recognized her when they’d met, or even seemed to register her face at all, so I find it so bizarre that he would have such an “Aha!†moment. Thank goodness Nurse Choi escaped with Mom before Jo’s henchman had the opportunity to comply with his boss’ orders. But now I’m curious as to who tipped her off. Sang-ho is gone and I doubt Dr. Ko knew anything. My only guess is maybe Nurse Choi noticed something wasn’t right… but either way, I doubt they’re in the clear.

As for our heroes, how funny is Jin-wook dipping his toes into Yi-deum’s not-so-moral waters? I loved his face when Yi-deum made him flash his (suspended) badge and fib. I don’t think Jin-wook is going to the dark side anytime soon, but I like that he’s learning to bend the rules now and then. On the other hand, Yi-deum is learning to rely on others (even if Jin-wook had to resort to petty means in order to get her to divulge her backup plan). I like seeing our leads take these baby steps of growth while not losing sight of the people they are.

WC14-00223.jpg

I was a bit miffed with Min-ho for bartering with Sang-ho’s journal. I understand he wanted the truth behind his brother’s death but I feel like that would naturally come to light when they exposed Jo Gap-soo’s laundry list of criminal activity. And the fact that he had to be convinced to give them the journal in order to get Jo at the end struck me as unnatural. It seems like this was just a convenient filler mission before the final week.

With only two episodes to go, I do wonder if we have enough time to wrap everything up. We’ve spent so much time chasing Jo Gap-soo in circles, that I’m worried as to whether we’ll get satisfactory resolutions for the things I actually care about. Like Yi-deum’s reunion with Mom (I’m still concerned about Mom’s memory… she saw Jo and showed no signs of recognition or fear) and her relationship with Jin-wook! For the time being, they seem to have pushed the conflict with Dr. Ko aside, but it’s not like it’s gone away. Is it too much to ask that we resolve all the problems and still have time for kisses?

On the upside, we’ve gained some more allies while Jo Gap-soo has been throwing away his cohorts like candy at a parade. I don’t see how he’ll weasel out of the oncoming storm (and will ragequit like nobody’s business if he does) but I’m sure he won’t go down without a fight. With just one week left, I’m interested to see how their final battle will play out.

Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching

So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

tineybeanie

  • Witch’s Court: I’m loving it. Especially that scene where Yi-deum had fallen to her lowest of lows and was carting around cleaning supplies while Jo Gap-soo was surrounded by his yes-men—that could and would have turned into a self-pity party in any other drama. But Yi-deum totally turned the tables on him, making him flinch in fear as she charged right at him with her dirty mop, and it was a refreshingly awesome moment. I do wish her mom had stayed dead though; it seems a little too late to bring her back into the story when the entire reason for Yi-deum’s life for the past twenty years has been to avenge/find her mother.

Witch's Court' Jung Ryeo-won vs Jeon Gwang-ryul, Final Big Match '

[Woohwi's court], which left only two times to Jongyoung, focuses attention on Jungryeonwon and Jeon Gwang Ryul's final big match. Jung Ryeo-won, who appeared as a specialist at the end of the last 14 days, announced the start of a special investigation that set Jeon Gye-ryeol on the spot. Her interest in the future is gathering attention, and her big-match watching points to be unveiled next week will be revealed to stimulate curiosity. KBS 2TV TV drama 'Witch's Court' is a mysterious woman who was forced to be involved in unexpected events during high-speed on the highway on the highway. Yoon Hyun-min), a criminal investigative act that deals with the ugly reality crime cases,

In the last 14 broadcasts, it was announced that the full revenge for Chae Gwang-su (Jeon Gwang-ryul) was to begin, as the figure of Kim Sang-kwo returned to the prosecutor's office as a special report. I have gathered the last minute point 3 that will add fun to the last broadcast next week with the attention being paid to how to dig up the gangster '

In the past 14 broadcasts, it has been revealed that there are two 'secret notebooks' of Baek Sang-ho (Hur Sung-tae, hereinafter referred to as Bae Seung-tae) The first one was killed by mutual acquaintance, and the other was taken from Baek Min-ho (Kim Kwon-min), his brother's brother. In this way, both Gyu-su and Gyu-sang have got a "secret notebook". I can not be sure of which one of the two notebooks is a true 'secret notebook', but I am wondering what kind of confrontation will be done by Lee and Gap.

In addition to the secret notebook, the next and the next are holding tug-of-war with each other. The next year, he holds information about his fountain pen, which is the decisive evidence that he killed the White Chief, and his other weakness, his wife. On the other hand, Gapu was aware of Kwak Young-sil's (weakness) who could be the weak point of the next. It will be a major point of view for their final big match how the two will use their own weapons.

â–¶ The last minute watching point 2. Death crisis Mourin Young-Sil, daughter Can you rendezvous with mother and daughter?

Gapu recalled that Gapu had encountered Young-sil at the marina, and through the 'secret notebook' of Baek Sang-ho, he discovered the location of Young-sil at the time of Choi Kyung-ja (Seo Ju-hee) It made the people who ordered to remove them without hesitating to let them know that Spirit and the light are in a sluggish state.

Earlier this year, when he heard that Young Chil had died from a fire incident 14 years ago, he was more immersed in revenge for the party leader. Therefore, I wonder how and when I will know that Youngsil is not dead, and I wonder whether YoungSil will be able to escape from the threat of Gap and meet with the next one.

â–¶ Last minute watching point 3. 'Witch Combination' What is the relationship between the two?

The witch chemi is ripe as Kim Jin-wook and Kim Jin-wook solve the case through repeated investigations. There is a growing interest in the synergies of the two men, who will play another combo in the upcoming "Cho Gap-soo" . In the past, Jin-wook and Jin-wook both made a strange relationship by knowing the ghosts between Gap-suk-suk-young-suk, In the next three months, the lawyer is back in front of Jin-wook and he is working with lawyers and prosecutors to build new relationships. In the middle of the investigation, the view of Duksu and Jin-wook who are thinking and worrying about each other stimulates the curiosity of viewers about what will change in their relationship in the future. Meanwhile, 'Witch' s Court 'will be broadcasted at 10:15 pm on Monday, the 27th.

CGS: So, why did you drag me down like this?
YD: Did you take her?

YD: I’m sorry. Without this, my mother could die.
CSG: A person I killed once, do you think I won’t be able to kill her again?
