i just started high school and in my country you have to pick out a main field that will define your specific subjects (that complement the mandatory ones). you can pick between sciences, languages and humanities, and economy.

so i picked languages and humanities since I love history and languages in general, I also like reading a lot.

in my school there are only 2 humanities classes and they are both just terrible. idk which one is worse.

my class has 30 people, 16 of which didn't manage to get a positive grade on a placement test we did for macs (which is maths applied to social sciences, so statistics, graphs and things like that).

one girl said, during our main language class, that the subject she hated the most was history.

atm we don't even have a history teacher, she's absent.

during our english class everyone who talked just murdered the language completely

no one pays attention in any class except for maybe 3 people. some are literally sleeping.

there is also a group of girls who are consistently playing around in class, they talk back to the teachers too.

the teachers even started treating us like mental retards ever since we took our placement tests.

edit: also, besides me, only one other person passed both english and our first language with an A.

I want to leave but the other class in my school is the exact same thing and my options are a school full of basic people I badmouth a lot and a school filled with people from the suburbs.

my mom is also considering putting me in a private school.

I am a mess right now, I don't know what to do. no one takes languages and humanities seriously in my city, there is so much prejudice. supposedly only dumb people sign up in languages and humanities so they can bail on mathematics.

tell me your opinion, oh.

thats just highschool

lots of people pick languages because its easy and doesnt have math and sience indeed

not a lot of students pay attention in class since most will rely on (written) exams to pass

private schools are expensive but i would def rec going there if you can or you can just mind your own studies in class, its not like you gonna need those messy class mates to pass or something

that's my opinion too but if the school year just started and the teachers are already treating my class like a lost cause, I'm completely at loss there. I want to learn, study and grow as a person but I don't see that happening in that class.
