MAMAMOO have it the toughest among new gen girl groups in one regard

Everyone and their mother knows that girl groups and high heels are a combination as old as time now.  That being said, it absolutely blew my mind when I realised that Mamamoo have never actually stayed in flats for pretty much the entirety of their 3-year-and-counting performing career.

It's not even an exaggeration because every single one of their title-track concepts has been all about those heels and/or pumps and platforms.  Every. Single. One. of them.

My god just look at the height of those things!  How the girls could actually walk, let alone dance and function like a normal person in such monstrous heels is beyond me 0u0plz.png

It's not just about the concepts though, because heels are always an essential part of every live performance Mamamoo has taken part in as of today, whether it is to promote their own songs or to perform a special stage for other shows like Immortals Songs 2 or Sugarman for example.

Of course that also means staying 9+ cm above the ground when they're in their practice rooms preparing for their dances too; it's seriously insane

Mamamoo always appear to be so natural and comfortable performing that it's sometimes easy to forget that they're literally walking on potential hazardous machines and that they face the risk of falling flat on their faces pretty much the whole the time they're on stage.

It becomes very telling in this hilarious clip of Gfriend, a group known to be very tall and which have never tackled on a concept that requires heels before, attempting to walk in pumps to reproduce Mamamoo's "You're the best" music video.  The girls understandably struggled quite a bit due to never having really familiarised themselves with such huge heels before lol.

(they were all so eager to change back to sneakers as soon as filming ended) laugh.png

Mad respect to the queens of performing and how professional they are for having constantly endured all of that pain and discomfort after all these years rlytearpls.png

they're small

Isn't it cause of their height? their 1cm song comes to mind. They must have trained really hard, kudos to them.

lmao yes that's also one of the reasons.. laugh.png

I don't think I realized they were basically the only ones hat perform in heels in the new generation. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like shoes have changed with the new generation. I feel like the past generation used to wear heels quite often in their performances/choreography. Now it's more common in the new generation to wear sneakers/flats or those 1 inch heels that lovelyz and gfriend wears

I think their choreos are overlooked

thank you!  finally someone has said it.  mamamoo has a notorious reputation for having 'easier' choreos when that is such an out-of-context perception that needs to be changed asap.  I'm pretty sure no one, even the best of dancers, could whip out their moves as freely as they'd wish when they're being 9+ cm away from actually touching the ground they're dancing on and being supported solely by a thin and frail stick

Their performing style is different from the usual GG routines, they are focused on looking easy and ''groovy'', which I believe requires a lot of control and strength. Sadly, it's not showy in a way that is easily appreciated.

exactly, and that's precisely the reason I made this thread.  I can't think of any girl groups in this generation that have constantly performed in such high af heels for every single one of their comebacks.  and those heels are not just high, they're supported by such thin and small sticks as the actual heels, so it's much more difficult to keep one's balance while dancing in them.  wedges can also be high but at least they have a wider base so there's more support for the one who wears them.

in conclusion, mamamoo are of gods' status now rlytearpls.png

This reminds me of something Nine Muses' Hyuna talked about in an interview where she explained how damaging it was over time to have to constantly dance in heels. Mamamoo really is an outlier amongst the new gen where dancing in heels has become far less common, but I do hope they're taking good care of their feet :(

I'm actually also really worried for the long term effects wearing heels can leave on their bodies.  it's not only about possible deformations to their feet, but there's also an increased risk of heart diseases bc the tips of their toes are always being applied pressure on.  hopefully the day will come when their company will give them a main comeback that no longer requires humongous heels rlytearpls.png

I'm super worried about the same thing too. But, from my observations, the girls NEVER wear heels anytime else besides the stage. If you watch any behind the scenes etc., they never wear heels so I like to think they give their foot a break and good massages. My babies look so good in them but also their feet rlytearpls.png
