What do you think of soroities and fraternities?

Greek letter orgs in my uni are fucking scary. I mean they have all these nice projects and events but everyone knows about the frat-related violence (FRV, as we call it) and the kind of physical (frats) and/or emotional (soro) abuse the neophytes go through to get in.

i was a pledge at one of the azn ones
they weren't doing very well bc tbh they were too chill and didn't promote the brand very much
also i could sense a lot of tension between them bc of it. like i could tell that the ppl they got along with were in the same lineage and anyone else was meh

but my fellow pledge (idk wat u call it i forget) was a sneaky bich i bailed out.
it was hella work and i didn't like being treated less than human for being a pledge. i understand that's how it is but i don't like getting yelled at for not understanding how a sister thing works or whatever

now they hate me lmao

I live in the bible belt and go to a college where greek life is still thriving.

... I definitely wouldn't join one. The entire environment is just not for me. I can't help but feel that these bonds are all fake and forced.

With that being said though, I don't really have any prejudiced thoughts towards individual sorority and fraternity members- it would be really unfair if I did. I've talk to several of them, and they were like any other normal college student.

I do think it's suspicious though that most of the members at my college are white people... Otherwise we wouldn't even have sororities and fraternities for black or jewish people in the first place. And the insider articles I've read about the crazy fraternity parties and numerous rape cases at my school make me certainly never ever want to join one.

Depends. I had housemates my last year of college who were in a community service-based sorority and they were nice. They were the furthest thing from the type of sorority girls you see in movies, and the sorority they were in was specific only to my university. Besides I hear that if you're in a professional sorority/fraternity you get a better chance at networking and getting jobs.

All I know is that its apparent purpose is to meet people, form friendships, do charity work, and party. But I've noticed since there's two girls from a sorority who sit next to me in class--that they trash talk people behind their backs. I'm like??? Aren't you supposed to be sisters or something?

I hate that they act so close in front of each other then talk about them behind their backs. It's so fake.
