Hyooga 10,307 Posted September 17, 2017 Share Posted September 17, 2017 I wanna ask the more general population so not putting this on bts mt I keep hearing people saying a lot of fans moved from 1D to BTS and frankly I never really followed 1D as they were outside my age range. I even hear this being said in places outside kpop forums (for example ohnotheydidnt, One Direction related youtube vids etc) And 1D isn't even K-Pop so..where did this idea come from? And if you look through some of the BTS and kpop videos on that channel I've noticed a fair amount of comments being like "omg, I followed you when you made 1D videos and now I love BTS and you make BTS videos." So ofc, there are a bunch of Directioners in there. I don't really count myself because I was already a fan of K-pop a few years ago and for quite long, but I was also a fan of Western artists before I got back into K-pop with BTS. though the day I leave BTS is the day I'm leaving K-pop for good lol Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Even tho BIGBANG had snagged a similar award 2 years prior this was the first time a major K-pop band like EXO competed against a major western boyband 1D in what became a nasty online battle between EXO-L (and K-pop fans in general) vs Directioners who were appalled their global superstar baes were getting beat by what they say a bunch of "nobodies" in Korea Even tho in the end none of them won (thx to Chinese bots) many 1D fans while pressed became highly impressed with the strange little world of K-pop and its many MANY boybands flash forward today and with 1D basically gone, the continuing popularity of K-pop and rise of BTS its no surprise many of their fans would be 1D fans as well. Ariana fans, Selena fans, 1D fans etc .. I noticed this during the BBMA voting actually. People started getting curious about this group that had a gazillion votes over some of the most famous acts in music. And of course, as ARMYs usually do, they helped introduce these people to BTS and their music.
