Do you think it's worth it to study abroad?

If you're going to try and really learn a language yes, but I think you really need to stay at least two semesters for that to be worth it.

If you just want to do it for 'the experience' I personally don't think it's worth it.

I guess it also depends on what your major is and if you can afford (without taking out extra student loans).

Yes, I think it's totally worth it. You get to experience a culture outside of your own.

I studied abroad in South Korea 2 years ago on a summer program for 6 weeks (about a month and 2 weeks) and I had a great time there. It also dispelled some of the things I heard about South Korea, like how they'll look down on you if you're SEA (nobody even cared or were too busy minding their own business). While there certainly are people like that, they do not represent the rest of the population.

Yes! I think it is absolutely worth it. I studied abroad in South Korea this summer for a month and a half and honestly, it changed me. I come from a very overprotective family, so growing up, I was always sheltered, which contributed to my introverted personality. As I've entered college, however, I've become much more outgoing, but I can say that I've finally broken out of my shell after this summer.

Not only did I go out of my comfort zone by having to communicate in an entirely different language, but it allowed me to learn how to be independent. You meet amazing people and go through experiences that just leave a mark. Just thinking about my time in Korea leaves me feeling nostalgic and somewhat sad because I loved it so much and it really felt like it was my second home, which is also why I'm planning on going again next year.

Studying abroad is an amazing experience and I really think it helps people learn more about themselves.

the only korean I knew before going there was kdrama/kpop korean phrases. The program I went on was conducted entirely in English--only the Korean classes are in Korean (with English only being used to explain grammar).

yes, you get to be immersed in a culture(s) different from your own while studying at the same time, and you'll also get to find out a bit more about yourself. I studied abroad in Europe (Austria, England, and Czech Republic) when I was an undergrad since one of the courses required for my major was available as a study abroad course, and I learned that I was way more independent than I ever thought I was.

I personally do not want to pay 4 to 7k just to visit another country for 6 weeks.

I always look for scholarships and try to pay the least amount I can.

But I think it is worth it for me. I would like to go to a country that doesn't see black people or just see them on TV.

I feel like breaking stereotypes and interacting with them would be a good lesson for me and for them as well.

Yes, for the experience and perspective. People that can't even imagine life through another culture's eyes are the huge problem right now. Studying abroad can be a real important experience to grow from.

I absolutely agree with this. It really changes your outlook on things and expands your views on certain matters that you will only be able to understand if you actually get to experience it.
