Does avoiding promoting alongside SNSD, 2ne1, BigBang etc actually work?

Kpop fans always seem worried about their bias group being overshadowed if they release a song during a week/day that one of the popular groups is releasing music also.

Has there been a time where a less popular group released a song when none of the really popular groups where and they received more attention because of that?

For example: Sistar and 2ne1 are coming back soon around the same time. Should nugu's avoid releasing music because they'll be overshadowed by them and won't receive publicity?

I just feel like if you're a nugu, it won't really matter if you avoid them or not. There are other factors that go into elevating your status/popularity.

well Secret going head on against SNSD for Love Is Move vs The Boys got them a fair amount of attention.

usually though it wouldn't matter cuz nugus wouldn't get far if they went before, after, or during big groups' promotions

As much as I like some of the popular groups I think it's sad how the rest of the groups are overshadowed. It'd be great if different groups got to win every time but that's never going to happen. Like someone else said, it doesn't matter if they promote before, during or after i have a feeling the result would be the same, sigh.

Competing with big acts can get you a lot of attention, even if it's impossible to win. Also, a lot of people are gonna be checking the digital stores and they might get your song along with the ones from big acts.

big act x big act can work too, it generates a LOT of free buzz

Honestly if SNSD or 2NE1 came back with shitty title tracks which they most likely will nowadays.........and a nugu girl group came back the same time with an amazing song and outperforms them on the stage people will take notice.

Look at 4minute now.

The entire May has been completely filled with lack-lustre comebacks from B/C-level acts, and I imagine it's been very good for 4minute to top them.

B/C level idol acts*. Many non-idols that released music are definitely not B/C level.

Secret seriously underperforming and T-ara N4 straight up flopping did help 4minute but, in the end, WYN was a song that got popular on its own merits.

It doesn't matter who you go against...if you have a song that is appealing enough on its own, it will do well with enough promotion and a bit of luck.

I feel like it can be a good thing to promote alongside them. Yeah, you might not win music shows, but what do you get from that except a trophy? Competition = fans try harder and spend more money, and it gets attention because more people watch the music shows and such.

good for increasing exposure for nugu groups

but not good for middle tier groups trying to climb up to higher tier

2PM is certainly not B level though

Its hard to say.

Sometimes the right song might matter, and how far long each big act are into their comeback.

I remember Secret did pretty well with Shy Boy and they had DBSK and Big Bang out at the time.

Depends, if it the group is fairly known and has any chances of winning awards on shows, it might hurt to go against top groups. For all the rest, it will probably even help since more people might watch them while waiting for the top group.
