eumaze 3,342 Posted September 12, 2017 Share Posted September 12, 2017 I'm fucking shookt edit: im actually quite surprised about the little exposure kpop (actually bts cos they're so popular among college students, and i'm not sure about others) considering the enormous presence of bollywood and other countless entertainment industries that blossomed throughout the years such as tamil, telugu and marathi etc film industries. kpop is nowhere near bollywood and the others which are deeply rooted within the huge variety of indian culture but i'm happy to see the progress bts is making. i have my faith on them to do something revolutionary cos they're quite an anomaly. kpop most likely won't become a niche but bts alone can and will gain more fans and popularity with the rate they're going. The class that I sit in, has BTS doodles all over the tables and chairs. I see so many girls wearing BTS hooded and merchandise. It's not a lot, but you can see quite a lot of Army's. Yeah I have my suspicion that it is not big since we rarely even heard India being mentioned when there are talks about kpop. But nonetheless, even a fraction of 1.3 billion is still a huge market to get into, and India is almost uncharted territory as far as kpop is concern. Of course there are kpop fans (more so amongst school and college students) here and there but not enough that kpop could be a culture here or come anywhere near Bollywood. I am currently studying in Bangalore but I come from North-East India where Hallyu is really really big like you won't believe that it is actually called mini Korea. As much as we can't deny the fact that Hallyu can't dethrone Bollywood we also can't completely ignore it's growth here.Also it's the same story here, EXO & BTS are the most popular here.
