I'm so late to this thread, bless you Jampop for making it. I'm a long way off my first badge but when I can get one, rest assured that it'll be the People's Sub Unit, the soon to be New National Girl Group, Korea's Favourite Daughters, SHY. I'll try to make a point of posting here and help promote the queens of k-pop.

 

Who is your bias? Hyoyeon

 

Why and when did you start liking them? I only got into k-pop relatively recently, at the end of 2012. I saw a video of some guy talking about Gee so I checked it out and thought it was pretty catchy, plus it was 9 cute girls. I watched a couple more MVs and Hyo was catching my eye a lot despite her lack of lines and screentime. I distinctly remember watching

and falling in love with the way she moves. She hits those moves harder than anyone else and looks amazing doing it. Then I started watching variety and her sense of humour and the dedication to performing cemented her place at the top of my list. Since then, the fact that she still consistently puts in the most effort during live performances, even when she's pushed off to the side at the back of the formation, make me appreciate her professionalism even more.

 

Memorable instances where you've been proud of your bias? Dancing With The Stars is perhaps the obvious answer, and deservedly so because she was incredible on that show, but I agree with hyotmess; the fact she suffered through a parade of disgusting haircuts and endless jibes by ugly talent-free netizens and still came out the other end looking like a queen makes me want to weep with pride.

 

Why do you like SHY? Anyone with a modicum of taste likes SHY. They're the strongest performers in SNSD, variety queens, hard workers, the best dancers, with a unique set of vocals perfectly suited to a different concept. Plus they're 3 of my favourite members, of course I'd want them in a sub-unit.

 

And what do you want from SHY, performance and achievement wise? Achievement wise, I don't care too much if they smash records and become million sellers, as long as they sell enough albums to be considered a success; that way, we'd be more likely to get a follow up album. Performances are what I care about. I want to see them perform the music they want to perform, and dance the way they like without being held back by some of the other members. Mature and sexy concepts, with not a single lollipop in sight. Interesting choreography that shows off their dancing skills while being enjoyable for us to watch and them to execute. A hip-hop sound seems to be a common choice, which makes sense. Hyo has said that Lee Hyori is her role model so music like her's would be a good style to aim for.

Who is your bias? Grammy winning singer, Academy Award winning actress, five octave vocalist, professional dancer, supermodel, owner of Topshop, Korean Tupac and inventor of music Kim Hyoyeon AKA Specialist H.Y. AKA The Notorious H.Y.O. AKA The Original Doll AKA Britney Spears.

 

Why and when did you start liking them? I first came across SNSD in April of 2011 when I read about "MR.TAXI" on some music blog. I thought the song was incredible and Hyoyeon's two-second robot-sounding line and her iconic dance break really caught my attention. It wasn't until late 2012 that I really started getting into them. Even if the reaction was polarizing, "I Got a Boy" was interesting enough for me to download more of their music. "Genie" and their Japanese songs got me hooked.

 

Memorable instances where you've been proud of your bias? The fact that she survived the poor styling, atrocious hairstyles and fucked up eyebrows pre-The Boys. When I watched SNSD on Letterman and I saw her moves during "OLLA BOYS, OLLA BOYS, WAN MAI HARR" part. And also, the fact that she's one of the few members that put some effort into their performances and she works with the small amount of material she is given. That life-changing line on "Goodbye". And most recently, when she got arrested and snatched CL's title of "The Baddest Female".

 

Why do you like SHY? Sooyoung and Yuri are my second and third favorite members and I think they are a perfect fit. They enjoy performing, their styles work well together and they are probably the best and most energetic performers in the group. I firmly believe they can save pop music.

 

And what do you want from SHY, performance and achievement wise? To prove everyone wrong and show that they are a fundamental part of the group. I want them to receive material that fits them. Excellent music, good music videos and killer dance routines. Even if some fans say the success is an extra, I want them to be recognized by the general public, so I obviously would like for them to be massive and break records. In SHY we trust.

Why and when did you start liking them? I first saw Hyo in the Oh! MV back in 2010 and I thought she was the pretty bitch in the group so I was first interested then, but even Hyo couldn't get me into SNSD at that time. Then I happened onto The Boys in 2011 and I got hooked. I remember learning the choreo and looking at the fierce blonde in the front to get the moves right. I wandered from there and eventually found out that she was a passionate dancer and a wise ass. The rest was history you know?

 

Memorable instances where you've been proud of your bias? When she performed that special stage on Dancing9. For a while before that, I was worried she was regressing in her dance variety and ability, but she surprised the hell outta me when she hit the choreo so hard and so well. I fell in love again. Also with Sooyoung, I officially started stanning after I saw her MBC Gayo performance. She.was.on.POINT. I cannot stress how much of a sucker I am for fierce female dancers who hit choreo harder than nobody's business.

 

Why do you like SHY? It's not a matter of like. We must all eventually accept the Holy Trifecta as our Lord and Saviour. SM has wronged the world enough with their repression. They must be set free. 

 

And what do you want from SHY, performance and achievement wise? I want them to flip their million dollar weaves and pop their billion dolla chocas. Excellent material first of all, that the ladies will enjoy and/or may have had a hand in. Improved vocals and polished dancing. Badass choreography, interesting, provocative concepts and club bangerz with a splash of ballads. Recognition from the public would be quite nice as well. 

 

I want them to smash. Records, performances, vocal-line tyrant scones and all.

I suggest that we find a person/persons who are attending k-con, whom have a liking of Soo/Hyo/Yul or SHY and are willing to bring a sign with them to the convention and do some promoting.

Who knows, maybe they'll get real lucky and somehow get SHY's attention

That would pique interest tbh.

The sign/signs would be written in Korean and English respectively, back and front. However, in case of any other possible language barriers, SHY's iconic denim pic would be a key aspect of the sign, along with the hashtags: #SHY #SHY2015.

If they can't get that  ....

I think it's a good idea, the only difficult part would be finding someone who:

- posts here

- likes SHY

- can afford to attend the show and

- is willing to make and then hold a sign

 

So I guess there's a few obstacles in the way, but I'd love for those 3 to know that there are people out there who want to see them get some kind of music activities for themselves. I mean, at this stage I'd be happy for a single special stage at one of their concerts. So if someone does want to do the sign thing, I'm sure we can all pitch in and suggest ideas.

Why and when did you start liking them?

I liked her and Sunny the most from the very beginning when I saw Gee for the first time. Once I saw her dance it was a done deal.

 

Memorable instances where you've been proud of your bias?

I'm always proud of her tbh. The bullshit she's constantly had to go through throughout her career would break most weaker people, but she never gives up. She keeps her head up, smiles and has a great attitude. Instead of being bitter, she makes a joke out of her misfortunes, laughs it off and is humble as hell. 

 

Why do you like SHY?

They're funny, they're sexy, they're fierce, they have amazing stage presence and I feel like they could give me exactly what I've been looking for in a snsd subunit. I'm tired of cutesy and frankly I don't want to see people just standing there "twinkling". I want to see a show, I wan't pussy poppin, I want flavor and this trio could give it to us.

 

And what do you want from SHY, performance and achievement wise?

All I ask for is a song and choreo that slays and they'll do the rest. That MBC gayo performance gave me a clear vision of what they're capable of and how great it would be with just the three of them being able to do more intensive choreo without being held back by weaker members. I know people have been giving Yuri a lot of shit lately on her stage presence but honestly when you remove her from the group and its just her or her with the dance line she kills it. I honestly think she may be burnt out from being a member that gets tossed to the side a lot. Achievement wise I would hope they would sell well, win a music show or two, enough to shut up the haters who act like you can only be successful in kpop if you can belt out a high note.
