Viewers and Korean nurses demanded the staff of the MBC drama 'Hospital Ship' to change Mina's nurse costume because nurses these days wear pants rather than skirts in korea and incorrect depiction in popular media could cause misunderstandings.

MBC has decided to listen to viewer feedback and has changed the skirt outfit to pants for the upcoming episodes.

you know what? I agree with this. nurses don't wear cute little fluttery and form-fitting outfits. they wear unflattering scrubs.

it's because nurses save lives. I know this is just a show, but seriously... being a nurse is a serious job.

they want her to wear pants because they don't want to see the serious, life saving job of a nurse reduced to some cute little sexy outfit on a kpop idol.

anyway, it sounds like they're asking her to wear pants, not actually like real hospital scrubs. asking her to wear a completely realistic outfit would be overboard for a show like this, but I think asking for pants is fine.

Maybe it's not a huge deal, but I can see why someone who saves lives as their job wouldn't want to see their job sexualized and trivialized.

^^^ this, if u are gonna show a medical drama, at least get some aspects of the job right, its always a hit or miss with all these medical dramas being made

I know people think it's a stupid issue, and it kinda is, but I REALLY hate it when media misrepresent things, like having a doctor or a nurse wear nail polish when its not allowed at all. Or having a nurse hang around the hospital in high heels when it's the stupidest idea ever, since a nurse will be running all over the place...A doctor/nurse will have to wear practical outfit, and follow protocol, because doing her job properly is her #1 priority, not how good she looks.

I know it's just TV, but I just can't stand this shit.

I get it. It must be quite tiring for professions like nursing, police, etc to see their profession get sexualized by tv shows and movies. If they don't wear skirts in real life then why portray it that way? it's not realistic.

As somebody who worked in work wear producing company for five years + I strongly disagree. Nurses usually wanted mini skirts or tight dresses. Only one who usually wears pants are older ones (lets say 50+) and female doctors. And even though it is more trendy style.

Those who wear unflattering rags are usually nurses in state hospital which get their clother purchased as cheap as possible by their CEOs. And usually arent that happy about that.

At first place... Nurses are just girls / ladies and most of them want to look good at work too. What I see as problem in most medical movies/series are high heels. Thats what no nurse/doctor would wear like ever.

That outfit Mina is wearing is unrealistic in many other aspects, the skirt is the smallest one. The top would be much bigger issue since you wouldnt be even able to prepare a bed properly for patient in time, not even talking about helping patients to move on bed. But I guess its maybe not what Korean nurses do...?
