KPOP at the iHeartRadio Music Festival

Okay so awhile ago, I'd see threads like—

“which kpop group will be first to perform at the GRAMMYSâ€

“who should perform the Super Bowl Halftime Showâ€

“–perform at the VMAsâ€

:imstupid: :imstupid: :imstupid:

I don't care how delulu you are, but the Super Bowl one was one of the most ridiculous scenarios I've ever read lol.

—however I do think it's completely possible for a KPOP group to get invited to perform at the iHeartRadio Music Fest. Maybe not on the main stage, but the daytime stage at the Village. It's a two day music festival in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand and it's broadcasted live across every iHeartRadio platform, and then later broadcasted on television on The CW. It's a pretty big deal imo. I listen every year.

I don't know nearly enough kpop groups to make a poll so I'll just ask. Who would you like to see invited?

Personally I think BTS ofc lol, they'd be good enough for the main stage tbh. BLACKPINK would be pretty well recieved as well as KARD. I'm not familiar with their entire discography, but EXO has a really good sound that would do well. As for my wild card pick, JJ Project. Their indie-ish sound would intrigue a lot of listeners and be much appreciated stream VERSE#2 :hoplz: . I'll slip Day6 in here too.

Discuss.

By kpop, you probably mean bts right •-•

Don't see any other group getting even 1% of a chance of being invited.

No. I honestly think other groups could be invited. Red Velvet would be really interesting i love Red Flavor. IHeartRadio seems like a pretty open platform if a kpop group caught enough attention.

when it comes to popularity exo or bts would have more chances to be invited even though, out of my faves i'd like to see nct&rv the most

but if we're talking about "potential to intrigue a lot of listeners and be much appreciated" 100% day6 and MAYBE dreamcatcher

I honestly don't think Exo would show unless they got invited to be on the main stage, they are way too busy to fly all the way to the US, perform an ultimately pointless performance in the grand scheme of things, and then fly back. I would love for it to happen though, Exo are amazing performers and more experienced than a lot of US acts are in performing for TV, they would put on quite the show. Although it did seem like the last time Exo was in Vegas a number of the members really seemed to enjoy it, so maybe iHeartRadio could get them.

Red Velvet is much more realistic since they did do SXSW, and I think it's impossible to not like their songs. Anytime I've shown non fans them, the only song that has gotten lukewarm responsis was Rookie. I have legit converted two people after showing them Red Flavor though, lol. Red Flavor is the ultimate bop.

BTS's company seems to be US obsessed and they seem to have a solid US fan base as well so I can see them doing it. But personally BTS does nothing for me so I would ultimately just ignore it.

Black Pink would be cool but from what I've seen of their Japan tour fancams they are kinda horribad live, but I mean so is TSwift soo...

I don't think they would be a good representation of what kpop is.

Kard and Day6 lol that would be doing those groups the favor of the century. Kard's hype bubble has popped and Day6 are nugu af.

Edit: lol these negs tho

The dead sea called to ask for some of its salt back.

Anyway, if BTS was US obsessed we would have an English album by now.

Lmao @ your choice of words rolleyes.gif You know they're not obsessed but are doing what everyone else would do if they were half as successful as BTS in the US, right? Also every opportunity they got in the US are thanks to ARMY, not BH's doing.

Look at you thinking that EXO are too good for any show but MAMA. This is the place where your faves can make connections and new friends, do some networking and attract new fans as well. It's a good opportunity for any Korean act to benefit from. Why in the world would EXO get invited to perform on the main stage? If even BTS hasn't made a dent in the US music market, EXO is even further back.

Anyway, if BigHit and BTS are so US obsessed, they would've released an English album by now but no, it's YG and SM that keep sending Billboard gifts and albums for them to review....

.

Funny how you try to explain how networking works for someone who sounds like they are living off their friend's couch in the basement without knowing how the real world works.

lmao let people who want to be limited to Mama and Melon remain limited, so that they can win the same album daesang every year until they retire, afterall, there's nothing better outside those two award shows. laugh.png

lol so to be US obsessed you have to go all in now? Isn't Rapmon the only one in the group that can speak english?

MNet can suck my dick for all I care, MAMA is the VMAs of Korean award shows.

BH is US obsessed because, in my opinion, they put so much weight on western validation. After all this "networking", all this "making friends", what is going to come out of it? Selling an extra 2,000 albums on Itunes? The most they are going to get out of it is winning a meaningless award that they can come back home with and media play about. imstupid.png

And I hate that I know about this little tirade shit fit armies had on twitter but that Jeff dude probably got that gift given to him, along with every other journalist there, at Kcon. And it was most likely NCT stuff because they were the ones there in the first place. I think it's hilarious that you think SM giving stuff to a music journalist at a korean music festival is some form of bribery.

Jay Park or anyone from AOMG.

I totally forgot about him, but yes I can see this. He's signed to Jay-z's label too.

To be US obsessed yes you have to go all in. Looks like you don't know the meaning of that word 'obsessed' since you have used it wrongly.

Obsessed isn't when you get attention when it's unplanned. Obsessed is sending albums to a billboard writer so they can write reviews on it and get you noticed. Last time I checked BTS/Bighit never gave anyone anything. All they have right now came to them.

I would think that by now in 2017 you would know that speaking English isn't a passport for getting into the American Market. Ever heard of despacito? The little impact that BTS made without an English song should show you that you don't need English. How would you know though? there's no way you will know after all the ones you stan haven't stepped outside their comfortable Asia.

Well of course if you want that Western validation, you should sign with a Western label, debut in the US and put out an English album. Is that not what JYP tried to do with Wonder Girls and YG tried to do with CL? That's the definition of wanting Western validation. Also, I didn't say that gifting Billboard was a form of bribery because every artist's PR team or publicist, even an American one, would contact different media outlets to write about them. It's not new or wrong. But it's still ironic that you guys point fingers at BigHit for cashing in on one of the largest portions of their group's fandom which happens to be in the US while ignoring all the other attempts made by other companies to help their own acts gain a foothold in the West.

Again with the 'meaningless award' you people love throwing around. It's BTS' international achievements that brought them recognition in their own country. What is wrong with that? BigHit hardly media plays compared to Big 3. If so many journalists were asking for an interview with BTS after they won their award, why not just hold a press conference to cover everything and make it more convenient for everyone? And so that's what they did to save time and cover all bases. If that had been any other group, their companies would've done the same thing. Big 3 companies do way more media playing and they also do variety shows to promote their groups since they have more connections with the broadcasting and entertainment industry. Every group has their own ways of achieving recognition and success. Why must you put down one artist's way of promoting themselves just because you hate them and to big up your own?

And generally speaking, why is media playing such a bad thing? Every celebrity/artist/famous person does it. That's why they have their own publicists and PR teams, to help put their names out there. When you see blurbs on the back cover of a book or in a movie trailer (e.g. Nolan's best work yet - Sunday Times), that's also mediaplaying and it's completely normal. Why do Kpop fans associate this with bribing?
