I would never tell my friends that I listen to K-POP. Telling them that I love a bunch of asian males that wear makeup as a boy is unthinkable. Lol...

isnt this kinda comment the exact thing the fanboys are upset about? That because they like BTS, people make assumptions about their sexuality?

and THIS.

I wish there wasn't so much prejudice towards boys liking boy bands just because these groups usually appeal to girls. Meanwhile, it's acceptable for girls to stan girl groups and not be mocked or have our sexuality questioned. It just goes to show that society still views masculine interests as superior, acceptable to be enjoyed by everyone, and feminine interests as inferior.

You really had to make this about women, right?

No, this means women have more freedom when it comes to their interests. Not that they're viewed as inferior.

Another thing that'll have to change is the way female fans treat male fans, they go too loco for them, making their experiences super uncomfortable. Overall, boys will have to step up to the plate and not give a shit, the more boys can be open about their appreciation for whatever bg they like, the easier it will become.

This reminds, a couple days ago peachisoda tweeted that they spotted a male fan wearing Bangtans Pumas, really glad to see this fan able to enjoy his bg with confidence.

We have more freedom when it comes to our interests because if we like what males like, we're accepted and are sometimes seen as cool because we supposedly now have superior tastes. Why do you think there are so many girls who like to flaunt to the guys how much they're "not like other girls"? Or point out that they're girl gamers as if that makes them special, as if it makes them fit in with the guys? Or how they're such huge comic book geeks?

If we pursue our feminine interests, it's also accepted because it's excusable for us to like 'inferior' things. Guys are supposedly above that. If they like makeup or fashion or boy bands, then they're automatically labelled 'gay' in a negative way.

I hope this perception slowly starts to change. The only way for it to is to talk about it, which often dispels misperceptions and ignorance--same thing about liking K-Pop. Of course some people are close-minded but I avoid those types IRL anyways, not that everyone can. Trust your judgment and be yourself. People who care about you should be respectful of what matters to you. At the same time, it's nice to have private interests too; whatever works.

Well she's not wrong tho. There's such a prejudice against really anyone who stans a male group, people think guys are gay (which there's nothing wrong with it) if they like a male group and girls/women are regularly mocked for being fans in general of boy groups. I don't know if you do stan Bts (which is besides the point), but Bts has been constantly ridiculed for having teenage female fans since they gotten popular. Male fans aren't mocked as much as female fans unless they stan a boy group. A lot of things don't become "acceptable" unless there's male approval, but this really is a topic for another day tho.

This.

Also BTS is a group that everyone can enjoy.

On the one hand it's definitely tough for male fans of boy groups, since boy groups are kind of looked down upon as girlish and silly and not something a "proper" man should like.  So if you like a boy group you're not acting properly masculine, you must be gay.

On the other hand the difficulty for girls liking girl groups is sort of the opposite, it's that no matter how gay they are for their girl group it's seen as something cute and silly and youthful, but not something in any way meaningful or genuinely felt.  Essentially, they can like whatever group they want, because there's less social respect to lose in the first place.

It's almost like gender norms are bullshit and hurt both sexes!

I'm glad they chose this topic to highlight. The psychology behind this aside (though I think it's very important to talk and think about where these ingrained ideas come from), I wish we could move away from ridiculing or judging others for what they enjoy. As long as you're not hurting yourself or anyone else, there should be no reason someone else should be making you feel uncomfortable or stupid for liking what you like. I've long ago stopped caring what people think of my interests, but it's not easy for everyone.

It should definitely be more accepted for guys to be into boy groups but can we also stop acting like being assumed to be gay is the worst thing in the world? I understand that in a very conservative society it might not be an assumption you want to be made about you, but we need to stop allowing it to be an insult.

If someone accuses you of being gay for liking boy groups and you're not, just correct them and move on or tell them it's none of their business.
