This isn't the first time they're coming back within each other, but this should be the first face off after BTS blew it big to become a top tier K-Pop group. Whether kfans or intl fans, they've been pitted against each other since last year. While the fan wars will be messy, this is obviously a probable marketing tactic which will benefit both groups in their own ways in terms of both sales and publicity. Here is my take: Seeing this, BTS fans will certainly end up purchasing the new mini album more ardently. A lot of bulk buying will ensue to protect BTS selling power. The showdown might also help with BTS media play in Korea, a territory where only certain companies get the sufficient media coverage. It has been known media coverage of BTS isn't very good in their home country. EXO fans will want to protect their thrown as to fandom so they will go more all out this time than they normally do on repackages, the fanwars may trigger a result wherein the EXO repack sells better than The War. The whole showdown with BTS will be covered by the Western media that loves making articles about BTS which will earn EXO more PR in international press too, and could possibly usher in new international fans for them. Just look at EXO Vs Big Bang in 2015 - LMR ended u scoring the highest single week streams ever for a boy group because of the competition against big bang. If people want compare, it's better to compare Exo's repack this Sept to YNWA by BTS last Feb, while The War should be compared to HER from this Sept. Many people will take notice and actually pay attention checking what's the noise is all about. The sales gonna be interesting, like what happened to BB x EXO back then. Both groups will have crazy sales (but when do they not?), but otherwise it will be interesting to see who dominates which dept.
