i got my black belt years ago. i lost interest after doing it for a while, so i decided to quit after i got my black belt. i can tell you nothing has really stuck w me, mostly bc of my inflexible limbs.

it's not that physically tiring. i did it while playing soccer, and went through it just fine. having a passion for it really depends on the individual tbh. so for people who really love it, i'm sure it was worth it.

i'd give it a try though! it was fun for the most part

dont it take like a couple of months to get to the next belt or smthg it took me basically 2-3 months to get to yellow belt then stopped bc the price is like 600/month. i heard it takes longer and longer as u progress

also its not that tiring

yeah the price of lessons would rlly be the only thing that's stopping me but still. do you remember what kind of things you did at first?

i used to,trash

It depends on how often the studio offers tests + if they think you're ready. Most people get black belts in less than 4-5 years if that helps.

; when you start is it *very* physically tiring

Depends on your current level of fitness. I'd say it's a low-intensity sport and not too hard for people who don't exercise. However, if you want to be able to do the advanced kicks you need to have flexibility, which means you'll have to stretch, so to some that is physically tiring.

; and is it worth it

Depends on what you want to gain from it. I think overall it is a valuable sport and can benefit almost anyone!

um each place might be different, but for us we had to memorize types of kicks (easy) and "forms," which is basically a series of various moves. it really wasn't that bad. age shouldn't be a huge issue, people start at different ages nowadays. it's just better to start when your younger bc it's easier for your body to adjust

I started when I was really young and did it for many years. I got my black belt but I quit.

I'm surprised people are saying it isn't a high intensity sport imstupid.png imstupid.png once you get to the higher belts, you'll spend much time running laps around the dojo, and people will be lining up (up to like 16+) and you'll be kicking their pads and doing multiple combinations (especially tiring when it involves tornado kicks). It only gets much more intensive when you're in the adult class and also sparring with them.

taekwondo have different standards based on which school/association you are practicing.

and there's WTF vs ITF

i did taekwondo in elementary school and it took me about 2 years to go to brown belt (equivalent to red belt in other countries) and i had double promotions once or twice i can't remember. didn't finish because i moved to a boarding school in middle school. the last time i could remember the promotion was held every 3 months.

there was one time an instructor from the US came to our club (an expat moved here due to work), and the style and rules were a bit different than what we were doing. kinda confusing.

Any age!

Of course if you want to participate in competitions, it's best to start young, but recreation-ally (extra curricular, right?), I've known 50 year olds that just start!
