Wondering what to do after I graduate next year in university

Next year I'll be finishing my course in business management (undergrad) but I'm really conflicted on what to do after. I had a conversation about going further to study for masters (although Doctorate would be my top option) in Business and Information systems as that's been my passion for the last 2 to three years in information system and business been my thing for about 7 years.

Anyone else had this problem before or now? And for those that have, any suggestion/advice?

While I am not there yet I have pretty much already made my choice on that matter. I am not going to further my studies once I graduate because I don't want to do research and thus don't want a master degree. I do however think that if you have the drive and passion for it I think it could be smart to further your studies while you still want to. If you don't I think the chance is high that you won't return to your studies once you are already working in your desired field.

I'm in the same boat as you, finishing college next year. I can't offer you advice as someone more experienced/older, I can only tell you what I'm planning to do myself - going abroad for specialization for half a year to possibly a whole year. If I happen to get a stable job while there then I probably won't be returning home to study for the master's degree right away, but if I don't get it, then I will come back home and further my studies.

I am also having the same dilemma right now. I will finish my Undergraduate Degree (also in Business) next term. My family, peers and professors have told me to pursue an MBA. I have always liked learning. It excites me when I can understand how things work. Also, having a Master's instantly doubles your salary--or so I've been told. Definitely, the practical course in life. However, I overexert myself a lot when it comes to studying. And lately, I've been feeling more and more 'empty'. Studying just tires you down. ohdearplz.png

I guess we have months to figure things out.

I'm in high school so I have a question for y'all. After you finish bachelors do you have to do masters then get a doctorate?? Or can you choose between them if your grade average is very good?

You can directly choose doctorate if you have close to 4.0 GPA (perfect score) at my school. Not sure it's same for everyone.

Oh we don't use GPA in Australia. I want to do a bachelor of business and bachelor of creative intelligence and innovation with a diploma in Chinese and exchange in Shanghai. I was wondering if a doctorate really makes that much of a difference for employers??

that's the part that gets me. I really do want to pursue a doctor degree but wanting to get some work experience beforehand yet at the same time I wouldn't want to be locked to a thing /:

That's actually a good idea. But that's another worry of getting into another degree or being tied to one thing. Really unsure :(

On my side I haven't talked to my professor about it. Just been going though with my parents. I've only been studying just so I can live up to their expectations and not have them worried but now their saying just do what I want. Just yesterday talking to my former tutor in school just all that went though my head wondering what to do. I've only been studying this hard just so my parents wouldn't think I'm a failure which often I get told it.

More job opportunity would be open as far as I'm aware when you do higher studies and much more opportunities to reach higher job positions.

I don't know much about business degrees and because my field is very varied in terms of job opportunities I am not worried. The studies I could consider furthering is taking a course while working part time to better qualify me for a new area to beat out the competition. But even that seems like a bit of a reach at this point. If you do worry about being locked in one area I think the best might be the middle way. Get some work experience for a year and then return. There is a risk that you won't return, but if you have the mindset that you will return I think it will be easier.

I used to work hard as I felt pressured by my parents. I had an image to keep, my own and my family's. I was afraid of failing and being branded as a "failure". Turns out, all of those were exaggerated by my head.

I have been asking my parents what they wanted me to do for like months. Whenever I saw them or ate with them. I felt this need to report; "I plan on working for this company..." or like "What do you think of this job?". My parents were like teachers basically. Lmao. One night, I told them, in a joking manner, that I wanted to be a radio DJ. To my surprise, they told me they were seriously fine with it.

I honestly don't know what to do. My interests have been changing a lot. One day, I'll be really convinced to pursue a Master's Degree. Some days, I feel like being more of a creative. Man. I'm excited and worried of my future.

I'm not sure where you are from but I live in the U.S. I think its important to get experience in your field before you go for your masters. Employers alway look at experience and if you worked before at or not. It is also important to have experience because working and school is totally different.  Maybe if your employer really likes you, they might pay for your master education. There was this guy in my e-marketing class that works for Nestle and he said that his company is paying for his education. But tbh that is like very rare. My point is that you will have a better resume and better chance of getting a job if you have experience working. My friend's cousin did her masters right after her undergrad and it took her a while to find a job and supposedly its not what she really studied too.  Also I feel like its the time to explore, so in my opinion I don't think you should rush into your masters yet. You may find out you might want to do something else. Just my two cents though. Good luck! I am graduating next year too.

OMG I feel you!!!! I am the same right now. Sometimes I'm like do I really want to do what I'm studying. Sometimes I feel passionate about it. Sometimes I want to teach English abroad.  IDK! LOL

I am in the same situation. My graduation ceremony is next week and I have no idea what I will do with that diploma...

My first thought was trying a master but here is kind of hard to get in (the preferences are for people with huge curriculums and of the same institution of graduation, both are not my cases, and I can't help it as my graduation institution doesn't offer a master course) and I am sure I wouldn't be picked ( actually I tried before to course an individual class of master course as a special student but not even for that I was accepted). After that I thought about trying another graduation as in my country we can't get minors so I would go for another area that envolved teaching that is what I formerly wanted. But now I am so confused, like nothing seems right or what I want doesn't exist...

But for what you said you have a path, that's good. You have an area you really like so if you want to go on with your studies a master in that area seems interesting and if you want to skip the master course you can try a direct doctorate, no?

You don't have to get a masters but you do get more money from a career after you get a masters

I still have 2 more years to go but I intend to start doing internships on my senior year to make things a lot easier. I really want to get into an architectural firm cause freelance jobs suck. My brother did the same thing and he already got a head start as an assistant after graduating.
