Yookyung was born in Seoul, South Korea on September 22, 1994. She has attended Busok Elementary School, Sehwa Girls' Middle School, Hyundai High School and School of Performing Arts Seoul during her school years.

Yookyung is the daughter of Hong Ha-jong, a CEO of a big manufacturing company, DSR Corporation. Although her father was a wealthy businessman, Yookyung's agency stated like all other artists, Yookyung went through the trainee process to become a singer.

Yookyung lived in USA for two years and was a cheerleader there during her elementary school days. She was f(x)’s Sulli’s classmate for two years. Since she lives a very proper lifestyle, her fellow member Kim Nam-joo gave her the nickname of “a walking alarm clockâ€.

On the 23rd of April 2013, it was announced that Yookyung left the group to focus on her studies.[1]

In the beginning of May, it was rumored that Yookyung's departure was not by her own will. Yookyung's father asked for a letter of apology from Acube stating the truth to the fans and asking for Yookyung's return to the group. Acube replied stating that Hong Yookyung's departure was agreed upon by the company, her family, and herself. They also added that her contract termination had already been drawn up so it would be impossible revoke her termination from the group.[2]

Later in the same month, Yookyung's father again revealed on his Twitter that her departure from Apink did not happen the way the agency insisted and left a warning that he would reveal the process of the agreement signing. Acube's response did not change and they added that they had no intention to bring her back.[3]

As a result of Yookyung's departure and Acube's actions, a large majority of Pink Pandas (official fan base) have shown negativity towards the possible replacement of Yookyung.[4]

For Apink's following comeback in 2013, Secret Garden, Hong Yookyung was not replaced by a new member.

Hong Yoo Kyung’s father wrote a message on his personal SNS account, stating, “I asked [the agency] for an apology to the fans and for the reinstatement of Yoo Kyung into the group. Please help.†Previously he wrote in response to the initial news of his daughter’s departure, “Yoo Kyung is probably suffering. She suddenly got the news a month before.†He added the meaningful message, “We live life only once so let’s not betray.â€

I always thought she looked a lot like one of my favorite 1st-gen (and one of the few to continue being active until now) singers in Kan Mi Youn of Baby Vox.

It was funny how A Pink would have the random english narration which was like her main thing. I liked her on A Pink news, was bummed when A Cube kicked her out of the company.
