Can any of you (Danish ppl) tell me how it is studying in Copenhagen?

Do's and Don'ts?

Is it super expensive? (for comparison's sake, I'm Canadian)

Is it safe?

How's dorm life?

Any tips?

Good grocery stores?

Places/stuff I should avoid?

share your experiences plz

Danish people are good at English but Danish is difficult to understand. Denmark's a safe country. It's not cheap but not extremely expensive either.

I'm not Danish so can't answer the rest.

Where are you from tho? I'm planning to tour Northern Europe (Sweden, Germany, Netherlands, hopefully Oslo) a bit during my semester then to go travel in the South when the semester's over (South of France/Spain/Italy) so anything related to those countries would also be greatly appreciated (although I'll be with friends after the semester and one of them studied in tourism + his aunt lives in Spain lol)

I can assure you that it's probably going to be more expensive than Canada (as with the rest of Scandinavia).

great place if you smoke weed

lol but I checked some prices (food, beer, etc.) and it looked a lot cheaper... except for night clubs (we don't have covers where I live) but then again I'm more of the museum/architecture/library/cafés type. I'll live in the Northern suburbs which are apparently part of the more well-off regions in the city? idek.

And ppl here smoke a shitload of weed but I don't so I guess it's pretty similar too.

Sweden

Denmark should be pretty similar. Oslo too, but more expensive.

I might go to Malmö and Stockholm, are they worth visiting? Any other interesting cities? I'm not the type that likes big crowds, I love the countryside/nature/walking

Stockholm is nice in the summer, somewhat crowded though. You should definitely visit the north of Sweden if you like hiking and/or nature.

Well if you're done studying, Italy is definitely the place you should visit lol.

The three larger cities would be Stockholm, Göteborg and Malmö. I've never been in Malmö but both Göteborg and Stockholm are beautiful. There's also Uppsala (just north of Stockholm) and Lund (in the south) that are filled with students. Malmö would be easy to access from Copenhagen.

If you're looking for lakes, forests, mountains and smaller towns then the northern or central parts of the country would be the best option. But since you're Canadian the north might not impress you much.

The large cities are boring during the winters lol, but skiing in the mountains is a popular activity of course.

I can't ski the only time I did I broke the skis by rolling down the hill and plowing into the cottage's porch  :._.:

I am slope-impaired

Yes even though I'm scared of the South since many call it Ethiopia 2.0

Hey there! I'm a Dane and happen to live outside Copenhagen.

For starters, I know squat about Canada except you spawned the Biebs, so I won't be able to help you all that much in regards to comparisons. Sorry.

Generally it's considered safe as long as you have common sense and unfortunately I can't quip in with anything about dorm life since I don't know anyone who lives in one or have myself. I can explain in further details in regards to your other questions if you want, just PM me. I don't feel like posting an essay on culture and such right now but feel free to write.

Lmao..............there is nothing to be scared of, the food, the sea and art are great.

It's really, really hot during summer though, especially if you're not used to it. Oh and i guess that guys can be a nuisance sometimes.

Well I know there's a cathedral there but apart from that I can't help

Italy's great, and afaik the south isn't that bad but there's no real reason to go south of Rome

I'm used to hot and humid summers as we often have canicules and go to Virginia/Carolina every year or so

And yeah those guys' reputation precedes them. I've been told Naples is really dangerous. Personally, I plan on going to Tuscany mostly.

Could you compare or anything? I'll have a student budget so I plan on saving up when it comes to food.

What's most expensive? (If it's dairy, don't mind it since I'm lactose intolerant)

As long as I have access to rice/meat/pastas/water/butter/fruits&veggies I should be fine. Oh and bread & jam.

I'm more interested in Spain tbh because super cheap food & lodging

I have two friends (dutch & spanish) who went studying in Denmark (for 1/2 year-1 year) and both had their times of their lives. Everytime I asked them about it their faces would lit up. Both were placed iirc in a international students exchange centered dorms, so they met alot of other international students, and there would be alot of fun & houseparties. I'm guessing students dorm life is the same everywhere else.

Scandinavia is def considered one of the safest places compared to the rest of europe, but you always need to bring your common sense you know.

I'm from the Netherlands myself and compared to Canada the prices are somewhat comparable and prob a bit more expensive  but Scandanivia is def way more expensive than the Netherlands. Germany being the cheapest amongst the north-western eu countries.

Yes even though I'm scared of the South since many call it Ethiopia 2.0

totally not necessary to be scared.

Do's - explore & enjoy (student life) & use common sense

Dont's - let anything restrict you from enjoying

Have fun :ahmagah:

Where in Copenhagen are you studying?

Anyways, I'd say Denmark is in genersl safe. Uhm it's not really that expensive, but it's not really that cheap either haha. As for the grocery stores they're are the usually popular and ones you'll find everywhere:

Netto: Netto_524756x.jpg

Fakta: 5841378-fakta.jpg

Aldi: 4317182-germany-distribution-consumer-su

Then there is also føtex, but it sells all kinds of stuff too..

I would recommend to take to a place called "Strøget" it's a In the center of Copenhagen. It's Europe longest pedestrian shopping area. It's very popular for tourists (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strøget)

Also another famous shopping place called "Fisketorvet" It's a huge shopping center with a cinema inside (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fisketorvet)

There is also a nice place where you're in a boat, then you'll get to see the beauty of Copenhagen out in the seaport (not really sure of the right word lol) but I forgot its name :C

- Denmark is in general safe, you'll meet a lot of people that are willing to help and many know english well.. The only people I would recommend to keep an eye on are young people that act like 'thugs.' You typically see them wearing canadagoose or north face jackets (not really saying you should avoid all those that wear them lol), baggy clothes and a lot of brand clothes in general. They just have the mindset that they own everything and can do whatever they like.. Some of them might hit on you and it might get a little uncomfortable (I have a lot of bad experience with them, fuck them) and such..

But you will be fine! Denmark is great!

Can't really help with the dorm place since I don't know any one sho tried living there

Well Naples...camorra doesn't bother tourists, but i wouldn't reccomend it if you're scared... Florence and Rome, however are great.

But especially if you're passionate about art, otherwise i guess it's not really worth it for the food and seaside only.

Aarhus Uni, Copenhagen campus.

Thank you soooooo much for the grocery store names!

Also yeah I don't really enjoy meeting strangers and am really blunt irl so I might just end up telling them to fuck off.
