I am socially awkward.. But would you considered me respectful?

So when speaking to strangers like classmates or random people that I see, I do the following:

1. I address the females as ma'am and address the males as sir.

2. I try to make and hold eye contact during the course of the conversation.

3. I try to smile as often as possible.

4. I speak in a softer tone.

5. I will try to give a slight bow after the conversation. (I am Asian heh)

Ex: When I want to get a stranger's attention, I always start with "Excuse me, Ma'am" or "Excuse me, Sir"

I would always say thank you.

So say if you talked to me, would you considered me respectful if I do all of the above?

sure i'd consider you respectful/polite...

but i assume you also want honest opinions...

i'd also probably find you a bit stiff and insincere...

not a bad thing though really... i mean, i wouldn't walk away with negative feelings about you... just.....

You can be very respecful and polite but still be socially awkward. It depends on where you are and who you are talking to. The points you mention above will fit right in with a more formal setting or a laidback professional scenario.

If you behave that politely in a pub people would probably call you a tosser putting on an act.

Just be yourself and never mind what people think (:

Polite, yes. Not sure of most of those things qualify as "respectful", but eh. I think if you respect them in your heart then that will most likely show through your actions~

Oh, you should be aware though that some people might not like being called ma'am or sir because it makes them feel old.
