Here there are some accents which ppl gush over and others that are ridiculed or stereotyped

like a british or light spanish accent vs a strong vietnamese or strong west african accent

but some times people just love the accent no matter

What kind of accent? I think in America people tend to take you less seriously if you have a strong regional accent (ex: southern, New York, Valley Girl) and you don't live in that region. I think part of the reason is that we all have stereotypes about those areas and if you have a noticeable accent people are just going to automatically associate you with those stereotypes.

I am Polish but I can speak two foreign languages: I easily passed C1 English test and I can easily read literature in this language without checking words in the dictionary. I still have an accent, too. unsure.png I also know a little bit of French (B1).

British accent, people think you're smart, southern accent, people think you're an ignorant, backwater hick, Australian accent, people think you're exotic and like active things, Jamaican accent, people think you hang on the beach all the time sipping coconuts and playing reggae music

I think it depends. I'm from Southern England (Queens English), my mum's right from the North East (regional 'farm people' sounding apparently). All the foreign and Southerners she meets love her accent because it sounds unique. Of course, there's mockery that comes for many people of all different countries just because of their accents- particularly speaking in English. Also in medias like National News, I've realized they will always find someone with a watered down regional accent if the person isn't speaking with the typical 'Queen's English' accent

Doesn't everyone have an accent? Like I speak American English, but I speak Midwestern English...News anchor English hah. To my I don't have an accent but when I go to different regions, people say I do.

I love all accents, one of my favorites doesn't get much love but it is the Louisiana bayou accent. A lot of times it sounds like they aren't even speaking english...so fascinating and lovely.
