What sets MAMAMOO apart from other idol groups (aside from their vocals because that one is a given)

The usual topics fandoms often bicker about with each other are mostly whether their faves have talents, whether they chart high enough or get CAK/PAK, whether their concepts are boring or repetitive, whether their sales could help them get daesangs etc.  

 

But as a Moomoo I often have a superior complex in one area that I know most other fandoms could only dream of to get from their idols: Mamamoo's members all have a say in the production of their albums/ songs/ sound/ lyrics, which allows them to be very comfortable singing their own songs and probably is what contributes to the fact that they're insanely entertaining performers who look like they actually enjoy being on stage and projecting their feelings through their performance.  They could literally tackle on any genre and sell it every single time.  Even if you don't like the sound that they're currently going for, they're always going to make you change your mind with their charms and confidence and charisma, all of which are painfully lacking in the Kpop scene as of late, especially in its newest gens of idol groups.

 

 

 

A mini-rant that's a bit off topic so put under spoiler below-

 

 

the idea of a 'concept' is very unique to Kpop, and it's something I have great resentment for, when idols are basically shoehorned into a designated image decided entirely by the company/producers, which often makes for very awkward final musical and visual products where you can tell the idols are either trying too hard or dying on the inside while having to act according to the concept that they're given without having any say in the matter.  I know that these idols are just a part of a chain of production involving dozens of personnels, but they're still the selling point, the face of the product after all.  It's never uplifting to see them uncomfortable in their own skin trying to cater to a certain targeted demography that'll only help them sell for so long before moving on to a newer, shinier and more updated version.

They perform like they've been around forever. Plus, they're like combination singers and gag women or something. Anyway, they're phenomenal and I don't throw that word around lightly. I've never seen another group like them.

They're one of the most lovable/likeable/relatable groups out there. They're hardworkers but still know how to have fun!

 

Concept-wise, I think it's because they're not afraid to go out of the box that is the concept given them. Like when they are given a choreography, they learn it but then throws some freestyle to it later on. Same with their songs. They don't only sing it as written, but they also make adlibs, make riffs, etc. They make the song their own and the stage their own. That's why they have fun doing it and can just be themselves. I think their concept is to make the stage fun. A concept that is sadly being forgotten these days. But i hope Mamamoo never changes that.

Indeed, there's a reason why their live stages are always even better than just listening to the songs on the album. It's to the point where sometimes I'm listening to the recording and something feels off and then I realize that it's because some of their adlibs and improvisations just aren't there and the songs don't feel as complete without them.

I think it's the combination of good vocals, great stage performances and big personalities that is appealing for most people, and that very personalities shows through their songs, and especially their live performances.

Their adlibs. It makes the stage seem very fun. They also enjoy performing, and it's reflected in their performance and it becomes much more enjoyable and fun to watch.

The individuality of the members shine through. You can tell they all have different styles from their clothes to their hobbies. Together, they complement each other's charms and work well as a team.

 

Also, they're actual friendship goals haha. I think most fans would agree that they not only admire mmm as idols but also feel like they'd be amazing friends to have.
