I know they are being pitted against exo/bts but i feel those two have such a classic rivalry and they dont really belong in the same timeline

I am sure in the 1.5 years they're active they will be slaying left right centre

But do you think there will also be a rookie band who can be pitted against them?

I honestly think their eventual rivals will either be the creker boys. Those boys are gathering interest and will have a reality show in mbc. A former important staff in sm is behind them and they are acquiring all these tie ups with notable brands. Their teasers are leaving ppl curious and shook. They have slaying visuals and a rapper in sunwoo who seem to have a good understanding of hiphop (so young but he knows how to develop his own style and not resort to swaggy hep hap). The only thing missing is good music and if they get that right i feel they might be the ones pitted against wanna1 (with wanna one being ahead by quite a lot tho).  But i feel creker boyz have potential to gain new fans who didnt really get into pd101. With both grps being pd101 products, it is more likely them to be compared too.

The only group that can be their rival is whatever group MNET (or any other company) produce out of other survival shows. W1 was created out of unusual circumstance, plus the marketing budget and hype is bigger because it was broadcasted all over the world. There's no point to discuss this further, only time will tell anyway. Let's just enjoy the ride and hope their success continues until the next big thing comes along.

From male rookies, no one. Their next step is to increase their international exposure. The biggest thing holding them back is YMC.

But they lack something intl fans (esp non kpop fans) in general love: authencity. Ymc is guarding their images and pr so much. They can be big but only amongst ppl who already understand the heavy control and manufacturing of kpop.

There's a reason why groups like bts and kard rose from the ashes and appealed even to ppl who dunn curr about kpop

They're going to be on a ton of shows including their own reality show and they were already on pd101 exposing their personalities. But YMC doesn't know how to cater to i-fans. They barely did vlive shows for IOI (and a lot of the vlive shows they did do were in connection to MNet's LAN Line friends) and didn't sub anything. Compare that to how JYP handles Twice and it's night and day. What Int'l fans really love is to be acknowledged.

they already seem more popular than the groups who debuted in 2016-2017 and don't "compete" with them to gain attention. They are the most known rookies right now, so they don't have rivals, but they will remain at this level -trendy rookie group-  if the group will disband in 18 months, they will never establish themselves as a group and became a powerhouse.
