Your thoughts on trainee life

When I first got into kpop i thought the idea of being trained for years before debut was so weird. Now, I actually think it helps make kpop such a great genre bc most idols are well rounded; can dance, sing, rap, and they behave pretty well (for the most part). What are your thoughts?

It's alright, I think more emphasis should be put on people that already have the talent. The biggest issue I have with the trainee program is that companies own your ass for years so you can not only pay back what they put into you, but also so you can promote as their artist.

At times it seriously seems like companies create idol groups as their personal play things. Dress them up how they want, make them sing what they want, dance their choreography and what not. Because you can get groups that are about certain "concepts" and shit. Like cute girls, fierce groups, ect... At times it doesn't seem natural and that is what makes groups really bland.

It's not all bad, but I think natural talent should be emphasized more.

It is hard and can be depressing. If they don't have determination, maybe will end up in depression. That's why when I want to judge any idol I will think several times because we never know their stories and what they have been through. And it's not a secret anymore that Kpo idols have to work really hard (maybe twice compared to western idols, maybe) even after debut. For example SNSD only get less than 10 hours of sleep in a week.

Not only that people also demand them to always look  "perfect", always smile (since if you frown a little bit people will call you arrogant/ impolite) even tho they are angry, and etc. So I will never understand the people who bash them just for the sake of joking.

I'm not really that much of a fan of it. I can see the benefits and see why it's done but I personally still don't prefer that kind of system.

But I guess one could argue that they may pick people with potential? I think it's understandable that they want so much control over them, since they're basically making an investment by training them.

To loosen the reigns a bit, rather than people with natural talent, per say, maybe they should be finding people with natural inclinations to create and innovate, and turn them into stars. I think that people like that wouldn't need to be controlled so much and it would certainly change the game a bit, as they'd be showing their own flavor rather than the one that the company made for them. But I see your point; natural talent would probably lead to having a "real" stage personality

I think that it's only worth it if:

a.) It truly, truly is your dream.

b.) You're going to reach DBSK, SNSD (a few members nowthatIthinkaboutit), JYJ or BIGBANG (most, I suppose, of the members) level.
