BOYS24 Are NOT Uglier Than P101 S2 Contestants

Recommended Posts

So the title of this thread is pretty striking and that's exactly what I was going for. No I don't think P101 boys are ugly, I adore some of the contestants a lot. I don't think B24 are ugly either. Personally don't care if someone isn't the typical visual or whatever, but I feel like there's so much misinformation about B24 being thrown around that it's just disturbing to a point. Especially considering these guys aren't going to be given a proper chance once the permanent group does form because of the "photoshop issue" that was prevalent which these guys had to face upon the show's debut.

The Photoshop was pretty terrible for BOYS24, and honestly Mnet should have known better. It made some of the guys that were extremely good looking actually worse than they look irl. But the hate that was thrown at their "'lacking visuals" comparing them to a professional picture versus a dimly lit, awkward screencap on the show was completely unwarranted.

Examples below

Jinseok:

What kind of angle is this even comparing?

versus Jinseok in a natural manner

And the fact that netizens didn't even use Jaehyun pictures when he was given a lot of attention on the early episodes due to his good looks just shows how pathetic the rumours about B24 were.

Jaehyun:

And my personal favorite in terms of looks is Doha (not your typical visual but his dimples are adorable).

TL;DR The facts are that Taedong (and Gwanghyun for that matter) were on P101 and BOYS24 both. On B24 they didn't actually get that far, but on P101 they did. So it's not that the boys themselves in B24 that inherently have a problem. BOYS24 flopped not because of the actual guys on the show, but because of disappointment in it not being the male P101 and because of petty Knetz who didn't want to give the show or the boys a chance because of it and decided to drag down their visuals without actual basis. B24 were all free agents, so they had no company stans to attract. The format of the show was so unfair to the boys themselves. The fact that after the actual TV show ended they had to perform 260 concerts around Asia (mainly in Mnet's dungeon though) in 11 months is sickening. Mnet is gross. I just hope the permanent group (yes, it's permanent with 9 members) can receive support once they debut (which is set to be in September). The final lineup will be announced August 12th. Here's to hoping Mnet doesn't screw them over with shit music, because they honestly are extremely talented.

True but PD 101 had an armada of flower boys type of pretty faces that initially went viral such as: Bae Jinyoung, Park Jihoon, Lai Guanlin, Seonho, Haknyeon and a much more varied types of visuals. It suited everyone's taste, though to be fair, it makes sense because there were a lot more members.

Doha is so hot

and Jinseok is so cute

Jinseok became pretty depressed and just announced his leave just before the final a few weeks ago. /: I would be too if I was that overworked and my career seemed to be going nowhere thanks to Mnet. I hope he gets to do what he wants to now.

And yes Doha is hot.

B24 had half the contestants, so it's only natural that they had half the visuals if we're going off of stats. And B24 had amazing visuals too that could have gone viral had some netz not shat on their visuals on unfound premises.

Besides, let's not forget Produce 101 S2 was hyped and highly anticipated and aired on a famous TV channel. More exposure, more appreciation.

Exactly. People thought B24 was going to be the P101 male ver, but it turns out it wasn't so many dropped the show just based off of that.

I'm still so angry at Mnet for crushing a man's dream (Jinseok) by overworking the boys (260 fucking concerts in less than a year) and losing the little hype they did have by debuting the permanent group a whole year after the show ended. He was such a bright guy, and you can tell from this perf he was so motivated on the actual show:

He only stayed for the last few concerts despite being unhappy for the fans. It's why he left the show before the final lineup was going to be chosen (which is some time this week).

I agree, but maybe it's because they didn't have the flowerboy that so many fangirls like to stan?

I think the idol school girls are in the same position, there are so many gorgeous contestants but somehow everyone thinks the pd101 s1 contestants were better

That's not the case clearly. Even an actress fell for Jaehyun (as you can see in the above). It's netizens who used bad screencaps to shame B24 which is why the show didn't take off. Read my TL;DR and it goes more in depth on that.

I agree with you tbh.

And I saw Jinseok a few years ago on instagram through a dance video and ever since then, I thought he was one to look out for. it's a shame that he's not continuing with them but his mental health should come first

He doesn't want to be an idol and I wouldn't blame him with how Mnet mistreated the boys. I hope he can regain his footing though. He was meant to be a star T-T

yep, those netizens spreading those unflattering pictures of the boys and then everyone simply agreeing based on some pictures that all the contestant were ugly annoyed me so much because several of the boys i could see being praised or popular for their visuals.

anyway i just hope after the final mnet or liveworks or whoever is managing them can get things on the right track and promoting the group in a regular way and maybe the boys who don't make it can try yg's survival or something or atleast just audition to join another company.

{Don't forget about Insoo! He was on P101 too but unfortunately didn't receive much screentime as he did on Boys24 - I can't forget how he was eliminated, brought back, and RE-eliminated (though honestly I loved Unit Sky too much to replace a member as well)}

I agree with this post though - I didn't quite understand why people were bashing on Boys24 for their visuals or lack of talent. They didn't really get proper styling until they were split up into groups, and the overly photoshopped pics didn't do much for a lot of them. A lot of them are quite talented too, but just weren't able to have the luck in getting signed (or had a company, but left for reasons). I really wanted them to do well, but I just couldn't follow them anymore after the first month or so because I had no idea what the hell Mnet was even trying to do. At first, I was thinking a year of concerts wouldn't be too bad - but as the show progressed, I could see they weren't generating a lot of hype. Furthermore, the amount of shows they've had to do is ridiculous; I'm glad Sangmin left when he could because his health would have gone down quick with the amount of work they were doing.

It made me wish a lot more of them could have gotten eliminated to be on P101 instead since I'm just OVERJOYED that more people saw the light on Taedong (and I'm still praying he'll be with JBJ and get out of his The Vibe contract , since they have royally sucked ass at promoting the amount of exposure he got, after the show), and partially Gwanghyun and Insoo (but I'm more happy that they came out of this with more fans and great friendships). I think a lot of them would have done fairly well on P101, or at least get more attention then what the entire 26 (?) members are getting over the course of a year. Looking back, it was just a bad setup and they didn't really benefit too much, seeing as how Unit Black's promotions were pretty scarce and their MV is still hovering around the 600K views despite having been released for quite some time.  I know they're better off than a potential nugu group, but they're still gonna have to put in a lot of effort to try and even get on some regular music shows and variety shows for promotions when the final lineup is decided.

Tbh, I don't know if I want my biases to get in the final group or not - I know some of them are looking at this as their final chance since some of them are on the older side, but I don't see them as they are now, getting much more attention when lineup is finalized. But, I'll await for the final results and hope that they all keep in contact well after the lineup is finalized. I'd love to see a reunion at some point, with some of the eliminated ones as well. And though I'm really sad that Jinseok (from what I assume) is no longer pursuing the path as a singer, I can understand. I hope he (+ the others) get some time to rest as I'm sure it's been a hard year.

I didn't add Insoo because he didn't go far. But he did in B24 so it's kind of a vice versa respect here. Mainly because there was more screentime to share and the show was slightly more talent oriented since judges had a bigger say in the lineup.

And also yes there's 26 members now if I recall as Hwayoung and Jinseok both left. Jinseok for other reasons as I mentioned above.

And yeah I'm just as much in a twist rn. But a lot of my really talented faves that were eliminated on B24 didn't go to P101 (most of unit purple T-T). On one hand the 9 member group is permanent, and some of them not making it in the group would leave a lot of their efforts wasted /: I hope they're able to be signed to other companies if they don't make it and pursue a path right for them. Doha, Hongin, Jinseok, Sungho, Yonghyun, Yeontae, Sunghwan, Jinseob, Woojin, Louoon, Sunghyun, Inpyo, Inho and Hyunuk are really talented and deserve to debut. The others are pretty strong too, I could have listed all of them tbh.

I just hope they put out quality music and don't have a dumb name. ohdearplz.png

Exactly. It's like people jump on Knet bandwagons and don't think twice about their own opinions.

And same... it's gonna be a struggle though TT

Makes sense. A pity he really never got to fully showcase his rap skills and even more of a pity that no company has signed him on (when you have Jung Joonggi who just recently signed somewhere ._.). I really liked the Pop team but I knew they weren't gonna survive even if they did get aired earlier D:

And yeah I'm honestly surprised I didn't see more of them on P101 - I'm not sure what all they're even up to now since I haven't been keeping track, but hopefully they're doing okay. rip Team purple, they had such an amazing performance :( maybe they applied but just didn't get through? I dunno D:

I might cry if they have a name like Unit Rainbow or something like that :/. I really want a legit name ._. (not that Unit Black isn't legit, but it's kinda not really official sounding) Are they being signed under CJEM?

And yeah Unit Black fit because it wasn't the permanent group, but I need a good name for the final group.

I think Liveworks will house them. https://www.soompi.com/2016/01/07/cj-em-announces-stage-project-boys24/

The derp ss article lol ...

Thx for this thread, people love to mock Boys24 when they have no ideas of what they went through. They don't realize how stressing it was for them to be stuck in a one year long survival show.

The concert concept wasn't a bad idea if done properly but they completely slaved the boys, 6-7 concerts every weeks (on some weeks it went up to 8 concerts ...). They performed the same songs in 260 concerts, had a 30mn hitouch after each concerts and too often, they did it while being sick or injured.

Idc for visual and when i watched the first episode i didn't think Inho was hot, however as soon as he started to sing i fell hard for him ♥

I'm glad it's finally ending but i will miss them </3
