during 2ne1 & 4minute & f(x) peak! girl crush was at it's best in term of music - sales - fandom - popularity etc..

at that time any gg that dare to come out with a cute or school concept couldn't beat the girl crush releases!

because girl crush was the trend at that time, it's killed the cute concept peak & hype that SNSD created back in 2007/2008,.

even when Apink debuted in 2011 with their cute concept they couldn't stand a chance against 2ne1 & 4minute & f(x) until they finally gained the popularity with 'NoNoNo' in 2013 but thanks to groups like Apink the cute concept didn't die,.

and of course SNSD also went for powerful & girl crush concept to secure their mighty crown (Nations Girl Group) with releases such as "Run Devil Run" & "Hoot" followed by "The Boys" and then "I Got a Boy"

personally i think the girl crush peak lasted from 2011 to 2014 since 4minute & f(x) lost their peak and of course SNSD with endless scandals lol! leaving only 2ne1 remain fighting for the girl crush honor,

when the girl crush warriors were struggling Apink kept doing their thing despite the fact that many i-fans & also k-fans were demanding Apink to change their concept but Apink ladies were not scared of the girl crush Tomboys lol since they have a Hapkido warrior & a Taekwondo fighter lol,

Apink push through and just kept going regardless of what people were saying,

and then a bunch of girl groups debuted in 2014 which nobody give a shit about since everybody were busy watching WW3 (Sone vs Blackjacks) lol,

it wasn't until 2015 when Apink & SNSD & Girls Day were busy cat fighting & pulling each other hair out lol!, and then Red Velvet & Twice who were busy in their own world fighting to snatch SNSD's crown, some companies thought you know what? it's the perfect time to revive the cute concept since the girl crush Tomboys have retired after cat fighting for almost 5 years lol,

and with Gfriend & Lovelyz taking the lead the cute concept found it's way back to it's glory specially with more cute concept girl groups attending the party such as OhMyGirl & April etc,.. at some point the cute concept dominated the girl group battlefield again which brought back the memories of 2007/2009 ..

and of course the cute/school concept hit it's peak again with Gfriend "Rough" which completely killed every remaining girl crush survivors lol ....

despite the fact that Red Velvet & Mamamoo released some nice girl crush tracks but their hype quickly died soon after Gfriend comeback with "Rough" and Twice with "Cheer Up" basically wiping out any traces of girl crush from existence lmao,.

BlackPink came out later to rescue Red Velvet but it was already too late..

the question is, who can bring back the glory days of girl crush and make girl crush great again?

CLC tried and tanked. I loved Hobgoblin tho!

It's a stretch to say that BlackPink will revive girl crush because they don't really have (and were trained to have) 2NE1's style, but I feel like they have the greatest chance of doing so, given their popularity.

It never left.

You've always had your cute groups, your girl crush groups, your sexy groups, your quirky groups. Sure, they do better at certain times, but they're all still popular.

The new generation isn't as stuck in a certain box as the old generation was. SNSD their impact I guess.

Whenever I read threads like these the only thought that runs through my head is "where is T-ara?"

Girls ruled from 2010 (09) to slightly after 2012, with banger after banger, and almost all of those were girl crush concepts. They surpassed ALL of the groups you've talked about, apart from SNSD.

Anyways, concept means nothing if the songs are not good. I don't like cute concepts but I love TT. I prefer stronger concepts but I didn't enjoy CLC's Hobgoblin.

What Jihyoqueen said. Very few kpop girls have that natural badassery to make it convincing... the CL's, Nicoles, Sunye's and Gain's are gone. I think OMG and GFriend could come close though because Yuju/Sin B and Yooa/Seunghee have something extra about them.
