I’ve just read a Kpop fan’s analysis saying that Twice’s problem was that they had no identity. Out of all the “drawbacks†someone could say Twice has, not having an identity wouldn’t even make it to the list in my opinion. Twice’s style is distinctive in my opinion to the point where I repeatedly saw non fans calling some songs “Twice sounding†and some concepts Twice-like (I think of Pristin’s Wee Woo, April’s Mayday, WJSN’s Happy).

Back to the question: in your opinion does Twice lack an identity? Elaborate please if you think they don't have any identity.

Lol absolutely no. They have an identity over their songs, concepts, visual themes (clothes, etc) and dance that will make you just go "Oh, this is Twice." Out of the things they could've lacked, identity would be very last on the list. Kudos to JYP for that

They have an identity and I thought it's a known fact.Their concept is color pop and individuality.Their dances and songs are different from other ngg.Maybe some will disagree but I can't see anyone pulling CU,TT,Signal like Twice does.So Twice definitely has an identity.

Thanks.

Twice’s struggle with Identity

TWICE seems to be doing the same thing over and over

Surviving on hook/pop songs alone

Imo Twice has an identity, neither WG 2.0 nor MissA 2.0

LOA/CU/TT, KK & Signal were produced by different producers with different concepts.

Hook/pop songs are not that bad, other popular songs are the same too. Examples:-

Signeul bonae signal bonae..........................11x

Ring Ding Dong, Ring Ding Dong,
Ring Diggy Ding Diggy Ding Ding Ding...........12x

Ringa linga ring ringa linga ring (like)
Ringa linga ring ringa linga ring (like)
Ringa linga ring ringa linga ring
Ringa linga (ahssa) ringa linga (it’s good)...... 3x

Gee Gee Gee Gee....................................... ..11x

The author is presumptuous. The article is barely an analysis.

Versatility shouldn't translate to "lack of identity".

TWICE has an identity. They are just versatile. Those who only tune in their MV's wouldn't see that because if they've seen CF's (MLB for example) or more (Sixteen, Hit the Stage etc.) TWICE can successfully pull off whatever concept assigned to them (Proof? Boost in sales, i.e. Pocari Sweat etc. There is no better proof than success in sales)—and that in itself, is part of their identity.

Of course, in my opinion they definitely have an identity.

Having an identity doesn't mean you have to do the exact same concept over and over. For example, Lovelyz has an identity (sweet, innocent concept), but they don't do a schoolgirl concept every single time. Oh My Girl has an identity (whimsical, innocent) but they don't do the same concept (schoolgirl, fairy tale, summer) every time.

Having an identity is about having a general theme you can explore through different styles, music videos and songs that are cohesive but varied at the same time. All of Twice's songs are different, but they are distinctively Twice because of their color pop style. Even with different producers, they all have a colorful, catchy and fun, bubblegum pop feel to them with en edge.

All their music videos are different, but they are always fun and very colorful, with individual concepts for each member (Except for Knock Knock, but for example: Different outfits and settings in LOA, costumes in CU and TT, super powers in Signal).

Twice definitely have an identity and a very strong and distinctive one at that.

musically they have disjointed songs, and they always do concepts that highlights their individuality.

The person who wrote it seems to have a problem with twice not breaking away from their identity and always following a formula, and not experimenting. But that's what I like about twice. If they drastically changed their music and concepts every comeback then I wouldn't know what I'm stanning.

I'd rather have them stick to color pop and individuality, but use more mature concepts as time passes. Kinda like how the wonder girls stuck to retro, but had more mature concepts later in their careers. I believe that a group should have a main concept that they should always stick to,groups that totally transform themselves every comeback often lack identity.
