Nowhere Boy 2,431
Hello. So for the last two or three weeks, I've had literally no appetite at all. I almost never crave food, when I do, it doesn't last long at all. I have to practically force myself to eat lately. I just hardly ever feel hungry, and when I do I'm full after a few bites. Literally all I've had in the past 24hrs is a 100 calorie pack of crackers and cheese. I've started losing weight because of it and I'm getting concerned. I've been dealing with depression for a year or two and my anxiety has gotten 10x worse lately, but my appetite has never been affected in the long term. I've had maybe a few days where I didn't wanna eat, but it's been going on for weeks now. Even when I don't feel depressed, I have no desire to eat. Sometimes I'll just make food and not even want it once I make it. Or I'll go to a restaurant and will have no desire to eat my food once I get it. Yesterday for example, I went to Pizza Hut with some buddies of mine. We went to the buffet and I barely ate two pizzas of pizza and a little bit of pasta. Usually I'd eat like 5 or so. Then later on that day, I made some popcorn and I couldn't even finish half the bag before I was full. Then attempted to eat some cereal but couldn't even finish the bowl. Even when I go to my favorite restaurants, I get full after a few bites. I started taking a new antidepressant, Zoloft, after my first one I tried didn't work for me. I don't know if that's the cause, however. My appetite was fading before I started taking the meds, so I don't really know. What should I do to fix this?? What could be the cause?? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much in advance!!
chiirbii 4,760
Def talk to whoever is prescribing you medicine. Loss of appetite is a possible side effect of new medication and that could very well be the case here, but since it's been troubling you before there, there could be something else at work. aan 174
I wanted to ask if it's because you are depressed but seems like that's not why...You should visit a doctor It still might be because you are depressed but better make sure and visit a doctor

yooras 1,102
yea, i have those days too. tbh, i'd advice you to try and be active, do something, use up your energy, in order to stimulate an appetite/get hungry. If it doesn't work, try eating small meals throughout the day in order to not get full immediately.
michiru 1,366
i think we might have similar problems, depression and anxiety destroyed my appetite. i've had them for a long time but i never used to have problems with eating and then all of a sudden they started getting worse and i couldn't eat anything. after a couple of bites i just got sick and couldn't eat anymore and taking zoloft made it worse. my doctor ended up having to prescribe me medication to increase my appetite because i got so underweight. it's been working so far, it's only been a couple of weeks but i've already gained a couple of pounds. you might have to switch medications. good luck! Oli London 1,762
Ash, you're just going to have to force yourself to eat more, because that's what I do.
Suzy Quatro 1,441
Are you on vacations? Usually the amount of activity you have has an impact in your appetite and having depression also directly impacts this. So I think you should see a doctor since you most likely need to at least get some vitamin supplements if you're eating less and less, also doing some exercise or physical activity my enhance your activity (and could also improve your depression for that matter).
