LunyEyes 711
so i was watching PRISTIN because you know, i love myself and all and i came across this live performance only to realize that it was 100% live: then i decided to watch the gugudan video from the same channel and i realized that this performance was 100% live as well: now, i'm not sure if all the performances are live but i think it's safe to assume that they are. this is a small PSA for those who really want to know how their faves do side note: i updated my signature, it's a bit of a work in progress but i'd still like to hear your thoughts on it. i just didn't want to make a new topic about it

OnCloud9 3,397
I like your sig but it's not mine so 9/10 That Pristin live doesn't seem completely live though. Edit: Gah ok Rena is so pretty, it's deadly.
Feary 2,115
They don't sound live at all? There's so much backing vocals too. Edit: okay, I can hear some but of lived in Gugudan but neither sound 100% at all to me.
chokemekjm 1,150
I've always believed that whether or not a group sings live depends on what they/their managers decide, and never really on the music show. Here's an example where pre-recorded vocals on that show were used. No shade to my bias group just the truth. Compared to their MuBank Koko Bop which was really live, you can clearly hear the difference. I side eye any performance where the artist doesn't wear his/her ear piece; it's too vital of a piece of equipment to omit for a live perf. (and thank you for the high score lol) They don't sound live at all? There's so much back in vocals too. wym?? hardly any of the vocals sound like the official audio lol
ChungHamster 1,690
I've definitely noticed that with Show Champ performances for my faves too, but I know it's not 100% real. Some singers sing completely live, while the weaker ones have the backing track over to mask their voices a little, but you can still hear it. snowdjinn 5,655
its always the same trick with Korean Music Performances. They give 1 or 2 performers real mics and only they perform some of their parts live. The rest is all recorded. The trick is that if you hear 1 part that is clearly live, you assume its all live. But thats just a stupid trick.

snowdjinn 5,655
but the parts where you hear the backtrack is when the main or lead vocals sing so i don't know why they wouldn't let them sing live and it's not like "Wee Woo" is that hard of a song to sing The companies and the TV channel dont want to take any risk even though i DO believe that many Kpop groups are good enough singers to do their songs live. Also, idols need to do a good dance performance and if you check when they really sing live during concerts.... they dont dance that precisely... its because if you dance that hard when you really sing live.... you get into problems with breathing. Thats why during concerts you see them balance dancing +singing so that it somehow works. On TV you need to show a perfect synchronized amazing dance. I think live singing is usually only on concerts.

They want to make money and want the song to sound perfect and lip-sync and want the group to do a perfect dance. The live performances are for concerts when fans actually come and pay, i guess. TV shows fear that something could go wrong during live singing, so they want it all lip-sync and under control. i guess when you want to make money you are not really interested in the True Art of Music/Singing. Hyoyo 108
Typically what happens with stuff that "sounds live" is that they record a backing track in preparation for the show, but have their main and lead vocalists sing most of their parts live. It's really hard to tell, and now that we know that MRs are baseless, we have to wait until we hear something like this.

shimu 553
Isn't it Music Bank that's always supposed to be live? I remember reading somewhere that MB doesn't allow lip-syncing from studio versions or pre-recordings, but since they do several takes of the performances, they sometimes take the audio from one take and visual from another, which can make it look like the lip movements and the sound aren't corresponding, but it's still live. Or has this been debunked? Anyway, I've always looked at MB for "real" live performances.
